R.I.P.
The man was a giant.
Rest in peace.
I suppose most days there are—honestly, I have no idea—let’s say 15 or 20 people around the planet brilliant enough to understand directly the science that delves into the astonishing nature of the universe. And in our own lifetimes, he stood above everyone, and was generous in trying to help the rest of us understand. Ironic that he was so physically limited, but you could envy, because you could not share, the breadth and depth of his understanding.
~RIP~:boom:
I read somewhere that he credited his disease and his frailty for much of his success as he could do nothing but sit and think great thoughts. If he’d been able-bodied he’d have been distracted by other responsibilities.
Such a great man. Such a gift. It’s a miracle we had him so long…
At 22 years of age his doctors told him that he could expect to live 2 more years…Somehow, he managed to leverage another 54 years. A man of incredible focus and determination.
While his intelligence is truly awe inspiring, I was always impressed by his sense of humor.
The man faced challenges most of can’t imagine. Despite that, he was able to see and understand more of the universe than most of us, and then tried to help us see and understand as he did.
Thank you Dr. Hawking.
He died on Pi day. How fitting.
He didn’t die. He ascended to higher plane of existence that we do not yet understand.
Nice post. I recall way, way back in high school our physics teacher telling us that only a handful of persons could understand Einstein when he first published.
Now, even many high school kids have at least a conceptual understanding of Einstein.
I hope to have a comparable understanding of Hawking before I move to the other side of the grass.
From star dust, to star, and back to star dust.
Thank you for sharing your universe with us Mr. Hawking.
That’s amazing. The universe works in mysterious ways…
Me? I would expect to go on 4/20.
Such and inspiration. A brilliant genius trapped in a non-working body, and he taught us that we know so little about the universe that we live in. Rest in peace Steven, you are a hero among humankind.
Which also was Albert Einsteins birthday
RIP, great man
Rest In Peace. And thank you.
Like the giants before him, his greatest gift was making physics accessible to ordinary humans. There are not many like him.
