In this case, I don’t mind if Trump endorses the candidate who supports steel tariffs
Finally, a Lamb is on the good side of the slaughter…
I live in the district. This sounds right for my neck of the woods, but look at the number of college grads/post grads and I think it’s not as representative of the border counties or the district as a whole. The race is probably tighter than it appears here. GOTV!
The article doesn’t say when the election is. Is it next week?
Good luck when the shitshow comes to town on Saturday.
ETA The article does say Tuesday, so I assume the election is on the 13th.
Well geez, if Dems lost midterms under Obama when he’d just pulled us back from the brink of worldwide financial meltdown, then this by all rights should be a republican slaughter with extreme prejudice.
The only real question is how deep will the repub cheating and Russian abetting go this time.
It is.
If this race is at all close, which it will be, I hope the DNC has a battalion of lawyers ready to dispatch. You know the Republicans do … . It would also sure be nice if someone at the DNC - or ANYONE in the national media - could remind people that the GOP, by doing nothing about sanctions, voting, etc, is aiding and abetting blackmail and treason. Gosh, I daresay the Republicans would be talking about this, yes?
So…maybe at least some of the blue collar/union types might see donnie’s tariff play for what it is…a callus political move AND a way to get Stormy off the headlines.
One thing I wanted to note, that I haven’t heard anyone else mention. When donnie was trying to bond with the steel workers in yesterday’s press conference, he was being SO condescending. He actually said to them: “Would you all like to take a picture in the Oval Office? (somewhat snarky tone) I assume you’ve all been many times into the Oval Office?”
Rarely does an hour go by on MSNBC or CNN where someone doesn’t remind viewers that:
A- The administration is letting Russia get away with attacking us without doing anything about it.
B- The GOP doesn’t seem to care.
C- The Russians are still doing it and will keep doing it.
Some will use the words “treason” and “blackmail”, but most electeds are reticent to do so before they have proof. But make no mistake, anyone watching either channel has heard it again and again.
Trump plans to campaign there on Saturday to try to goose GOP base turnout for Saccone, who has mightily struggled with fundraising and getting his name out there as GOP outside groups have had to pick up the slack with millions of dollars worth of TV ads. But according to the survey, the president is currently unpopular with the district’s most likely voters, with 48 percent of those saying they definitely or probably plan to vote in the race disapproving of his job performance to just 44 percent who approve.
“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”
― George Orwell, Animal Farm
Did that asshole actually say that? What a condescending asshole.
Trump truly is an unvarnished Orwellian monster who is, even by Orwell’s standard, over the top. Our Founding Fathers were brilliant and prescient, but could never have imagined someone so utterly compromised, selfish, stupid and reckless attaining the office of POTUS.
PA-18 is a weird district in that a significant portion of it is HRC country and has HRC demographics w/college educated voters (areas around Monroeville), but then you’ve got those Washington County/SW corner of PA voters who are West Virginia red + voters east of I-76 who are also red.
RABA is not the greatest pollster, but their results are in line with others, and sometimes pollsters up their game after a bad cycle. There are some common fundamentals to this race which most polls and observers have identified:
- High Dem intensity.
- High participation of college educated voters from the Dem part of the district.
- Lamb attracting a lot of labor union members.
- GOP not that energized.
- Lamb coming across as a gun, steel and coal friendly midwestern moderate and pragmatist.
- GOP still has a reservoir of voters where a late surge could help Saccone hold off Lamb.
- Trump and GOP pulling out all the stops to try to win this seat. Trump is pushing crazy trade policies to try to win a district that won’t exist next year.
I think a potential key difference here is that there are actually more registered Democrats than Republicans in the district. Even the red counties like Washington and Westmoreland have more registered Dems. Now these Dems are pretty conservative, but keep in mind that Washington County voted for Kerry in '04 narrowly and Gore in '00 by 9 points. We can track this county as a tipping point for when WWC voters went dark red (hint: it started post 9-11 and accelerated when Dems nominated the black dude for President). These were districts that used to be competitive. But maybe what we’re seeing is that Lamb has tapped into those older, WWC Dems that were Gore and/or Kerry voters and flipped to Bush, McCain, Romney and Trump. If that’s true then Lamb might win by a higher than expected margin.
I’ve been bullish on this race (and have contributed) because I think Dems have the better candidate. I like his chances.
Martes 13??? El Martes 13 en Sud America es igual al Viernes 13 aqui. Mala suerte. Donde esta Pennsylvania? Aqui? Bueno. Estamos seguro.
The election is Tuesday March 13. There is HUGE intensity on the Dem side for this race. It predates Murphy’s resignation. We had Mondays with Murphy to go with Tuesdays with Toomey. Both were no-shows for their constituents. When Murphy resigned in disgrace, Dems in the district were already organized. Much different than previous contests.
Most of all, they could’ve never imagined a populace so petty, stupid, and hateful enough to elect PP.
RABA DABA DOO!
I want to be super confident but the internals of that poll:
It shows people in district college educated: 60%
No, it is more like high 40% at best (around that figure in 2016). This is likely to be a nailbiter and will be decided by turnout. Hopefully, Lamb has learned from Bama Senate race and concentrated on getting people to the polls instead of wasting money on endless ads.
there’s an element of our society that is indeed fully deplorable, but there is also a portion of our population that is really hurting, having been economically displaced and disrupted, and I do feel a bit sorry for them. Someone posted this earlier in the week (@cervantes? @mattinpa?), and it’s worth a watch if only for a minute starting at around 9:30 or so, and especially starting at 9:50.
