Discussion: Ex-Spy Valerie Plame Weighs 2020 Run For New Mexico Congressional Seat

Yeah, and whether she wins the nod or not she seems like a really good person to have out on the stump talking about national security. Even if she becomes a party surrogate, we need more smart women with backgrounds in intelligence.

She raised money for Hillary Clinton in 2015. I haven’t heard much from her since that (wasn’t aware of the Twitter takeover attempt, kudos to her for trying). I agree, she’s smart, articulate and has the National Security chops. How many active Democrats have had a Hollywood movie made about them?

Questionable if she can get enough support for a House run in New Mexico, but she’s lived there since 2006 and may have developed a pretty good network. I’d be glad to contribute to her campaign if she runs.

I have long admired the Wilsons, but I don’t think she understands just how hard it is to run for Congress. With a few special exceptions you just can’t parachute into a district and expect to win. It takes years of hard work getting to know all the issues, hopes and dreams, and people in your district.

It will be interesting to see how she explains away all the shitty things her and Joe Wilson said about Obama when he ran for president the first time.

You forgot Tucumcari and Truth or Consquences. Not to mention White Sands.

If she can’t connect with the voters, she’ll lose the primary. 'Nuff said.

Tim Ryan promises healing. Who wouldn’t want some of that.

Ironically, although I’ve traveled frequently to New Mexico, I’ve only been North once - to Albuquerque. The rest of my visits have been to the Las Crusas area (south central) - Beautiful state. The main problem with visiting there is that I’d always go through real-Mexican food withdrawal when I returned home to Maryland.

[My one trip to Albuquerque was interesting. We didn’t realize that President Clinton was in town and staying in our hotel. The lobby and elevators looked like a “Men in Black” convention - and we got to watch the poor Secret Service Agent on the night shift assigned to the park outside the hotel. The park held a number of lifelike statues - a woman on a park bench, etc, and it was his job to check each statue at regular intervals all night to make certain the statues weren’t joined by real people.]

Aloof? Seriously? She was a CIA agent, who got exposed by Cheney and that was life threatening. Just being a CIA agent usually means you’re not the most chatty person in the room. She’s been out for awhile and if she can connect with voters, good for her. She’d be a great congressperson, especially in these times.

Straw man alert: she’s been living there for 13 years.

Joe Biden epitomizes the dramatis personae of yesteryear. Yet we’re told he’s surging, top of the heap, beloved, blah, blah blah. If a smart woman with a background in intel (hat tip @pluckyinky) wants to run, she might win.

Not to mention the 19 pueblos and archeological sites. I can name all 19 but I won’t do it here, but Taos Pueblo is a World Heritage site.

I remember at the time of Libby/Novak outing her it was an issue that people kept calling her Valerie Plame, because she actually went by her married name “Valerie Wilson” up to then.

The reason that it was an issue was that Novak and his defenders kept claiming that he hadn’t outed anyone because all he had said was “Wilson’s wife”, and inventing the idea that she was only known as “Valerie Plame” fed that BS narrative, like somehow if she was Plame no one would know who he meant, even though she and Wilson were constantly seen together and it was no secret who his wife was.

I remember the always brilliant Tom Tomorrow/Dan Perkins lampooning it in a cartoon with some right-winger saying “All Novak said was ‘Wilson’s wife!’ That could mean anyone!”

It’s different now since I think she’s even authored books as Plame, but at the time it was really the result of right-wing ratfucking that everyone called her that.

Maybe Plame herself doesn’t consider the locals any more “grubby” than any other man or woman running for any seat anywhere who can be found getting to know them as they campaign.

Wørd. :punch:

And not just for the “immediate” need - we need #StrongWomenWithIntegrity as role models to help detoxify the current generation and help young females not yet brainwashed to see, “Oh, positive role models!”

And for young males to see what #StrongWomenWithIntegrity look like as well.

I believe TorC and White Sands are in the other district.

Take some weed, whites and wine and call me in the morning.
