Yeah, and whether she wins the nod or not she seems like a really good person to have out on the stump talking about national security. Even if she becomes a party surrogate, we need more smart women with backgrounds in intelligence.

She raised money for Hillary Clinton in 2015. I havenât heard much from her since that (wasnât aware of the Twitter takeover attempt, kudos to her for trying). I agree, sheâs smart, articulate and has the National Security chops. How many active Democrats have had a Hollywood movie made about them?
Questionable if she can get enough support for a House run in New Mexico, but sheâs lived there since 2006 and may have developed a pretty good network. Iâd be glad to contribute to her campaign if she runs.

I have long admired the Wilsons, but I donât think she understands just how hard it is to run for Congress. With a few special exceptions you just canât parachute into a district and expect to win. It takes years of hard work getting to know all the issues, hopes and dreams, and people in your district.

Ironically, although Iâve traveled frequently to New Mexico, Iâve only been North once - to Albuquerque. The rest of my visits have been to the Las Crusas area (south central) - Beautiful state. The main problem with visiting there is that Iâd always go through real-Mexican food withdrawal when I returned home to Maryland.
[My one trip to Albuquerque was interesting. We didnât realize that President Clinton was in town and staying in our hotel. The lobby and elevators looked like a âMen in Blackâ convention - and we got to watch the poor Secret Service Agent on the night shift assigned to the park outside the hotel. The park held a number of lifelike statues - a woman on a park bench, etc, and it was his job to check each statue at regular intervals all night to make certain the statues werenât joined by real people.]

Aloof? Seriously? She was a CIA agent, who got exposed by Cheney and that was life threatening. Just being a CIA agent usually means youâre not the most chatty person in the room. Sheâs been out for awhile and if she can connect with voters, good for her. Sheâd be a great congressperson, especially in these times.

I remember at the time of Libby/Novak outing her it was an issue that people kept calling her Valerie Plame, because she actually went by her married name âValerie Wilsonâ up to then.
The reason that it was an issue was that Novak and his defenders kept claiming that he hadnât outed anyone because all he had said was âWilsonâs wifeâ, and inventing the idea that she was only known as âValerie Plameâ fed that BS narrative, like somehow if she was Plame no one would know who he meant, even though she and Wilson were constantly seen together and it was no secret who his wife was.
I remember the always brilliant Tom Tomorrow/Dan Perkins lampooning it in a cartoon with some right-winger saying âAll Novak said was âWilsonâs wife!â That could mean anyone!â
Itâs different now since I think sheâs even authored books as Plame, but at the time it was really the result of right-wing ratfucking that everyone called her that.

Maybe Plame herself doesnât consider the locals any more âgrubbyâ than any other man or woman running for any seat anywhere who can be found getting to know them as they campaign.
