They should tack a zero onto that sentence.
Yes! It’s outrageous that he only got three years and that other officers got less time. Such an egregious violation of civil rights and the public trust should result in very long prison sentences.
Unfuckingbelievable. They should be sentenced to the maximum prison term to which they exposed their victims.
True. Under the circumstances, though, I think their time in prison will be particularly difficult.
Now this is the kind of cop Trump really has in mind.
Let’s hope so.
“Round up the usual suspects.”
Yeah, some deterrent effect 3 whole years (less the chunk cut off by parole) will have on ambitious cops out to craft a rep for themselves.
“Atesiano’s lawyer says the victims were not randomly selected but were known to police as having criminal pasts.”
As if this makes it okay. There is a mindset that they must be guilty of something so its okay to falsely convict them. There are few things more difficult in this country than leaving criminal history behind you. Completing your sentence means very little.
The article doesn’t mention how many victims (yes, victims) of illegal imprisonment there were, or how many years those victims collectively spent in prison. (I find it somewhat notable that the only description of those victims were that they each had a “criminal past”.)
These corrupt cops are lucky I don’t decide sentencing. They’d each be serving a matching year for every year they collectively subjected innocent people to.
Wouldn’t surprise me if it added up to a lifetime sentence. But they affected an untold number of lives with false arrests and conviction. Let those chips fall.
Slaps on the wrist. With “good” behaviour, they’ll probably serve just half that.
Ex-Police Chief Gets 3 Years In Prison For Framing Innocent Black People
This is totally unfair, even un-american. Cops have been framing innocent blacks since Police departments were first created, and now people are getting jailed for following a tradition? It’s not like the defendants got hanged or anything, they only got about five years.
You forgot the /s after that comment. Someone’s gonna have a fit.
But why ruin their lives like that? Isn’t being exposed to public shame and having their careers cut short punishment enough? (ahem)
Few years back there was a “reverse” situation in Phila. Black cops were framing suburban white guys. Talk was of reversing large number of convictions. I never heard more.
20 years minimum. I am a Federal Security Guard and this sort of thing P*sses me off.
As a law enforcement officer (LEO) I have the power to do things that would be a criminal offence without probable cause, such as detaining someone against their will. When I initiate such action there damn well better be a good reason.
Alpha Hotels like Chief Prisoner Atesiano make my job twice as hard when they abuse this power. Throw the book at him.
Any ban on working in law enforcement in the future?
He will not do well in prison.
Hey Justice Roberts, what was that about a post-racial society and how racism isn’t a problem anymore?
