A guy I work with recently told me this story: When he was in college President Bush came to town and one of his friends came to the barricades with a camera and said that he wanted to “Get a shot at the President.” The guy said it intentionally to be provocatively funny. The Secret Service didn’t find it funny and came to apartment and interviewed him that evening for a few hours.
What Trump said to a crowd where he and Giuliani were calling Hillary a treasonous criminal is thousands of times worse.
Halperin also found a 2008 quote from Joe Biden saying that President Obama was not going to take his gun away. And Halperin tried to make THAT an equivalent comment. Halperin is beyond despicable (but I take perverse pleasure in the fact that he is stroking out over Trump’s latest gaffe)
Now see, a normal person, much less a paranoid one, would be naturally mortified had several ex-CIA chiefs, an ex-NSA chief, and numerous military generals issued dire warnings about them.
Everyone talks about Trump using dog whistles. One has to wonder if Donald can hear the sirens coming from people connected to the most lethal organizations in the world.
very bad taste reference to political assassination and an attempt at humor
Like Rushbo, Donald doesn’t do humor, unless he’s called out on the appalling things he says. “Hey, I’m just an entertainer,” when someone follows his not-so-subtle suggestions towards violence.
I have to hand it to him - there’s nothing he says that he can’t backtrack away from and claim another interpretation. Makes me wonder if he isn’t really planning to say these things and disguising it as stream-of-consciousness assholery.
Of course Donald meant it as a joke. The thing is, it’s the kind of joke only a dangerous assh*le would make, as part of a dominance game.
I’ve come to the conclusion that, among other things, Trump is a dinosaur. During the 80s and 90s I was in a grapevine that included many of the really offensive jokes that Wall Street guys would tell. And then there were the various equal-opportunity tapes of corporate execs discussing minorities when they thought only their co-conspirators were listening. And Donald’s current crap would have fit right in. No question about it.
That was 20 and 30 years ago. Most of the execs who have survived have learned you don’t say that kind of thing where it could be reported. You try not to even think it, and you definitely don’t act in any way that reflects finding such jokes funny. But Donald never learned. He’s like that quaint drunken uncle everyone sorta tolerates, or like all those bottom-level republican functionaries who still can’t resist passing on one more Obama photoshop.
Mark Halperin is a legend in his own mind. I am not sure why MSNBC has anything to do with him. FOX would seem more appropriate. With Ailes gone and others probably to follow, do not be surprised if he moves along.
Hillary and/or Elizabeth Warren need to start saying that Donald Trump just isn’t a good communicator–that he can’t actually articulate what he means. Then, sure as God makes little green apples, he will insist that he says exactly what he means all the time.
We need to stop making excuses for the spoiled, entitled white boy, and hold him accountable for his behavior.
Conservatives have no problem painting a Black Lives Matter march as virulent insurrection, but when it comes to the billionaire , well… maybe he’s just being a tad thoughtless.
