“I will not apologize, and I will not recant because the word
‘holocaust’ was invoked by the Iranian government,” Huckabee said. “They
used that very word.”
Sounds about right. NPR did a piece on exactly that last night - Trump leads all the knuckle-draggers in the poll they are using to determine who the ten will be for the first debate. The Huckster’s numbers are below that threshold as of right now.
Not only is Huckabee a shameless liar, and a defender of an admitted child molester, but he obviously has zero knowledge of history. First of all, the Jews were living in Germany before the Holocaust. They were integrated into society. They had shops, ran businesses, went to school, and worked alongside the Germans. They didn’t see it coming.
So is Huckabee proposing that Iran will somehow march into Israel, a country that’s literally surrounded by a 30 foot high concrete wall and one of the strongest militaries in the region, backed by American power and possessing 350 nuclear weapons of their own?
His analogy is not only completely wrong and over the line, but makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. His hyperbole and rhetoric have no place in our society and he’s just acting like a two year old crying as loudly as he can to get some attention. And boy, he sure got attention! Probably not the kind that he was expecting, now that every Jewish Anti-Defamation organization is condemning his remarks. But old Huck is just too stupid to apologize, so instead he doubles down on the rhetoric, claiming that he “stood in front of those ovens”.
Oh, I know there is. I made the comment the other day, conservative Christians want to see Israel and the Jews wiped out too…they just want it to occur on their own time line to coincide with their End Times predictions.
Oh, absolutely. Peace in the Middle East is the last thing these nutbars want: they “support” Israel because that’s where the final conflict is supposed to happen, so war is kinda their goal. And they love the Jews just long enough for us to fulfill our role in that prophecy, at which point they’ll all watch joyfully as Jesus fulfulls his role in the prophecy and shoves us all into the furnace of Hell… I have no doubt, none, that that’s what was in Huck’s mind as he gazed at those ovens on his tourist stops.
@chammy, I saw it too, and got the same chills. And I wish they’d posted the whole interview, because he’s yet another Republican (W’s ambassador to Israel, no less) who supports the deal. But of course, most of the media only covers Obama and Kerry in support “balanced” by every GOP opponent and wavering Dem they can dig up, so today’s WaPo poll has a majority of Americans opposing the deal. Surprise. We’re barely hanging onto the edge of a cliff in this country, and the “MSM” is gleefully holding the GOP steady as, one by one, they pry our fingers off the ledge.
Even if Iran had a nuclear weapon, which it doesn’t, it wouldn’t use it to bomb Israel. It would use it as a deterrent against Israel using its nuclear weapons against Iran. It is Israel that threatens to bomb Iran every single week. Iran hasn’t threatened Israel, nor has it attacked another country in the last 300 years. Israeli propaganda however is very effective in the United States. Most Americans think that Israel is a peaceful country that never attacks anybody and Iran is a belligerent country that attacks other nations on a regular basis. The truth is just the opposite.
OH…lest I forget! There is this: Huckabee was for an agreement with Iran just like the President’s agreement before he was against it.
[We cannot live with al Qaeda, but we might be
able to live with a contained Iran. Iran will not acquire nuclear
weapons on my watch. But before I look parents in the eye to explain why
I put their son’s or daughter’s life at risk, I want to do everything
possible to avoid conflict. We have substantive issues to discuss with
Tehran. ]
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, 2008
Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer on Monday night condemned former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s (R) “outrageous comments” comparing the Iran nuclear deal to the Holocaust and said that Huckabee’s statements reminded him of the “incitement” that led to the assassination of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
Stochastic terrorism is the use of mass communications to incite random actors to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable. In short, remote-control murder by lone wolf.
This is what occurs when Bin Laden releases a video that stirs random extremists halfway around the globe to commit a bombing or shooting.
This is also the term for what Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity, and others do.
Good for the former ambassador! We need more and more condemnation of this rhetoric that ties extremist speech to the violent results we are seeing all over the country as those who have been misled and convinced that liberals, people of color, feminists, environmentalists, and peaceful protestors are the threat, are pushed over the edge by the media they consume. Free speech, sure, but irresponsible speech? No. We will label you for what you are–dangerous demagogues who manipulate those they “lead.”
Hey DJ64, good call. Here’s an article that makes the same point that you do, but provides a deeper backstory about why and it debunks Huckabee’s contention that Jews have been “overwhelmingly positive” to his claim last week that President Obama is marching Israelis “to the door of the oven” Oh, and the author extends Godwin’s Law to cover new anomalies like Huckabee:
Wile I agree with most of your reply to my comment, this:
Is true only in the most narrow of senses. Hamas (and Hezbollah before it) are proxies supported by Iran which have attacked (and continue to do so) Israel. That is not to say that Israel is blameless, Hezbollah came about in response to Israel’s actions after repeated rocket attacks by the PLO for example, and your larger points are valid, but let’s not unduly try and shades the facts.
