Coal-burning, right up there with all out thermonuclear war, is a bad idea. Given our large coal-burning legacy and the damage it has inflicts, this would be the time to ban the stuff outright.
Emissions from burning a lump of coal or a gallon of gas has an effect on the climate 100,000 times greater than the heat given off by burning the fossil fuel itself. And, the heat trapped by those emissions can be felt within just a few months of the fuel being burned. Burning fossil fuels is the globeâs biggest source of human-caused greenhouse gases and the primary cause of climate change.
âThe EPA reportedly plans to argue that the Obama-era regulation would illegally regulate the power sector, and that the costs of compliance would be insurmountable.â
Short term greed, long term consequences.
IF the issue is to keep coal alive then, no. Rumpâs EPA can allow coal power plants to run in the middle of downtown Boston and âroll coalâ in the Back Bay and itâs not going to save the industry.
IF thatâs what this is about. If this is just a âscrew youâ to Pres. Obama, then thatâs kinda different.
They Converted to Natural Gas because itâs CHEAPER, they make MO MONEY MO MONEY!
Because itâs CLEANER to burn is an after thought with these TurkeysâŚPennsylvania, West Virginia,
Kentucky love Don The Con and his line of Greed !!! Pay To Play is the Republican WAY!!
WAKE UP AMERICA
This is (I think) mostly a resource suck â itâs going to cost lots of litigation money and attention to fight the new regs, and meanwhile all kinds of other anti-enforcement actions may sneak through.
Theyâre going to kill us all.
If we adopted all of the tenets of the Paris climate treaty and doubled them tomorrow, it would be decades before we would notice any improvement in the climate. This is more important for what it says about Trump attitude (and, by default, Americaâs attitude) than for what it will actually do to the environment. At this point, there is no solution - there is only attitude, effort and prayers for some kind of technological improvements.
Great discussion on this topic on Chris Hayes Why is this Happening podcast with Andrew Revkin (Aug 14th episode) - realistic look at current climate change realities.
Yeah fk that clean air and clean water iniatives. The âpeopleâ are not entitled to them. Itâs all about the 1% being hamstrung.
We loaded the gun and handed it to them.
Itâs like this admin. intentionally does whatever is wrong, or harmful or provocative. Whatâs next, an executive order federally protecting the kicking of puppies?
Be interesting to see the cost in peoples and public health vs. savings for the power companies.
Whatâs next with these assholes? Eliminating seat belts from cars because it adds costs to the price of a car?
The thing is car companies brag and make it a huge selling points that theirs are safer, pollute less, get better gas mileage, cost less per mile, etc.
Edit: A 106 year old article about global warming
They didnât always, but sure, they do now.
Coal is an economic turkey. Are there any rich people who want to invest their own money in one of these new or used coal burners? How many savvy Wall Street investors hear opportunity knocking in coal stocks? Asking for a planet.
The EPA is a tick on an elephantâs butt saying âLook at the huge pile of poop I made.â
Rewarding and giving Republicanâs biggest donors what they paid for is all that matters to these bastards now. Itâs the spoils system of giving patronage to the highest bidder. This is what the government under tRump has become.
Yeah well I think they found out a lot of us give a hoot, donât wantaâ pollute!
Well, parents of kids with asthma - as well as anyone who gives a shit about their own health - should be jumping up and down with joy (although too much jumping in the coal smog will make you lose your breath a lot faster).
