Discussion: EPA To Loosen Rules For Automobile Gas Mileage, Pollution

Wedded to identity politics, the Democrats have completely ignored whites who have been suffering for years from declining…exposure to air pollution.

Don’t forget the fine people of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Virginia who were forced to contend with cleaner water until the GOP repealed Obama’s stream protection rule. Now they can once again enjoy the benefits of toxic heavy metals in their water supply.

It came to him in a vision, during a dream, during a nap, while loud crashing sounds happened nearby, getting closer all the time. He awoke to find his security team standing over him and assured them that the vision was from above and he would implement it with all due alacrity. And so it was that the Prophet of Profit came to his current mission.

It truly was terrible. There were things living in it, moving around in it without legs or arms, and you could see them because the water was clear. Ew. So glad to be free now.

Not just the toxic metals – they get the whole mountain in their streams.

Edited to add:
That little patch of trees wasn’t spared for aesthetic reasons. There’s a cemetery in there.

As bad as Sessions and Mulvaney are, and they are really, really bad, it is conceivable that a lot of the evil they do can be undone by a sane Congress at some point in the near future. The stuff this guy is doing is toxic for generations.

Any change is likely to set up a lengthy legal showdown with California, which currently has the power to set its own pollution and gas mileage standards and doesn’t want them to change.

States rights for me, not for thee…

Remember folks, a vote for these criminals is a vote for your long term physical and mental demise…they are literally killing us.

I gave up on American-made cars a long time ago. Japanese cars are the way to go!

Pruitt: “Problems? Every citizen is now required to step outside seven days a week, take one dozen deep breaths and exhale slowly. THAT’LL CLEAN UP OUR AIR!”

So once again, just like in the past when we didn’t subscribe to fuel economy limitations accepted elsewhere in the world, our manufacturers will be relegated to second class providers. Congratulations, Japan, Germany, Sweden, and even China! We’re giving away our share of the car industry…again!

I’ve been a car geek for most of my life and usually keep and maintain a vehicle until it’s smoldering at its end. I can sync the carbs on a Corvair and change the points and plugs on a Slant 6 Mopar. Short of complex tasks I currently maintain my 1995 Ford Thunderbird.
Last week I was away on vacation and needed a rental so I picked the Ford Fusion hybrid. I got 45 plus mpg mixed use with plenty of power to spare and more than enough comfort for my 6’2” self. When I returned it to the rental agency I didn’t even have to top it off.
With Trump and Pruitt it’s always penny wise pound stupid. As if good fuel economy, less smog, fewer kids walking around with asthma inhalers and some savings in consumers pockets is a terrible thing.

Or not, in which case, F them.

US auto makers aren’t stupid - unless Trump plans to raise the minimum wage “hugely” or freeze the price of gasoline at a level that would give the Koch brothers a heart attack, making cars more expensive to operate won’t be much of a selling point… and any cars designed to meet Trump’s standards will be unsellable in the rest of the world.

The issue to be cognizant of is that the CAFE regulations give automotive manufactures reasonable (the definition of reasonable may depend on perspective) deadlines to reach the mileage limits.

If the CAFE limits are reimposed, they will restart the clock. So effectively, if the car companies choose to, they may not do a damn thing until regulations change back. I think this is likely given how cheap fuel is. Consumers focus on factors other than mileage if gas is cheap.

Exactly who is the auto manufacturers suppose to market gas guzzling cars to?

That’s a great idea, using human lungs as air filtration/cleaning systems. It has the added advantage of reducing lifespans, eventually resulting in full funding of SS. Now if they could just get rid of those pesky giveaways, Medicaid and Medicare, the world would be perfect. Short term, I would invest in companies that supply respiratory aids. Long term, not so much because no one will live past 40.

I can’t say I think you’re wrong. A lot of damage has been done - to programs, staff morale and retention and general effectiveness.

I think the only thing to be done us to roll it up in a larger Cabinet-level department.
I like DEPE.
Department of Environmental Protection and Enforcement.

I hope to hell California fights the administration on this. We can’t go back to the level of air pollution we had in the 1970s
