If he wants time to clear his name before resigning, he could start by explaining that “Coonman” nickname in a military school yearbook. I have never heard of anyone in a military or related organization, who didn’t know exactly how they got a nickname.
He’s not resigning so MoveOn.
He was elected for in by the people in Virginia. And in less they remove him he’s going nowhere he’s done nothing that is illegal it’s not an impeachable offense happened 35 years ago. I know there are some Democrats that want him out so if they can put their guy in and we all know who we is. Fuck it up about it he’s going nowhere. And if you’re not from Virginia mind your own damn business.
Oh, yes. There are plenty of selfrightious people who know all the right answers.
You haven’t been reading the comments on this board. To read some of them this is a stoning offense and it proves he is presently a racist pig.
I don’t think that he should be ‘stoned’ (though the thc might make him a lot more honest person), but this notion that folks are willing to go along with this (on account of Trump), says a lot.
Thank you - if this is a purity test the parameters are pretty strange. I thought racism was just intolerable.
You may have much better understanding of politics than I. But some of us who vote for Democratic ticket would like to see at least some politicians show that they believe in principles, and not push for expedience.
I just don’t like giving the enemy (Republicans) an opening. I also realize that just about every person I have ever met has done something they are ashamed of. Since we live in America a lot of those things have to do with racism. With this particular case we risk setting an impossibly high standard.
The enemy got the opening when Northam put on black face and got his picture taken. But if you think this is an impossibly high standard, then you tell us where your line is on racism.
I know where mine is, and silly me, I thought we all thought it was intolerable. Apparently not.
I’d be sympathetic, but that Saturday press conference…oof.

I’m agreeing with @tena on this, thanks.
‘Does the line have to be straight?’ /s
I don’t know - I’m not drawing any myself.
And as far as this setting some sort of impossible standard - that suggests that we can’t find people to put into office who aren’t racist or haven’t been at some point and I think that’s dead wrong. I also think it is perfectly possible to find candidates who have never touched a woman in an objectionable way.
I am so sick of this story already.
Huff post has an article (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/justin-fairfax-virginia-sexual-assault-allegation_us_5c588e9ae4b09293b20730f0) that begs the question: Is this a political hit job that keeps eyes on the news and makes money, but destroys democracy? I thought that it was another case of the politics of destruction and now think I may have been right.
As it goes now, they do not have to touch anybody, just be accused. If you accused you’re guilty.
You want to name someone that has happened to specifically?
The right knows exactly how to press democratic buttons to make them self destruct.
Clearly there is right wing involvement in the sudden appearance of a 40 year old photo.
Along with this incident comes “outrage” over the Mary Poppins chimney sweep scene where characters faces are covered in chimney ash. Attacking a cherished old film is obviously going to piss off middle America.
Back to the Governor - it’s just disappointing that the democratic elite are falling in lockstep over this. If the photo was taken last year, they’d be right. But 40 years ago?
Wonder what will be popping up next to deflect attention from a bad president, and the rotten politicians keeping him in power.

And that is the point. You don’t draw any lines. Anything that is done 30 years ago can be and will be called inexcusable racism by you. There is no growth. There is no change. There is just you judging everybody by your standard for all time.
I am sorry but unlike a lot of people on this board, I have actually lived a long life. I know for a fact nobody can live up to your standard. White, black, brown you can find something in every life that you can and will call racist. Nobody has a chance to learn or grow. You just judge.
I don’t approve of what Northam did but I sure know a lot of people who did worse in the 1980s and before. People who wouldn’t think of doing the same thing now. But you don’t give a shit. You just judge. Because some people on this board want to suck up to you, you get away with it. Nobody dares tell you that you are holding everybody who doesn’t look like you to an impossibly high standard. You just judge.
You are more than willing to cast the first stone because you aren’t honest enough to examine your own life for similar transgressions. I will bet you have done and said things that are racist. I bet you don’t want to be held to your standard. I know that you are black, but that doesn’t matter. Just like white people, black people are capable of the occasional racist transgression. You don’t draw any lines, at least for other people. You just judge.
