Is he standing alone in the face of many dozens of Democrats, both national and in his own state, calling of him to step down? Will he have an adverse impact on the State and National party? Will he now be able to govern effectively with the anchor–of his making–tied to his neck? Will it give his opponents ample ammunition to use against him? Those are just some of the political calculations.

These are different cases. Similarity is in very obvious dirty trick push, both in timing and fanning the fire. I was against Franken’s resignation and I am against Northam’s resignation.

In a perfect would, someone whole career would be paramount. Politics and perceptions, much as you might wish it to not be so, rule the day though. Those are simply the realities of this world.

The democratic party has become too pure and intolerant for a lot of people.
We need a Centrist party that would incorporate liberal republicans, and middle-road democrats (aka people with common sense).

I see Senators, Supreme Court Justices, Governors, that actively interfere with voting rights of African-Americans and other minorities. I see Governors, Mayors, Police Commissioners who approve of violence against African-Americans. Those are racists. Some guy, putting on the back face 30 years ago, stupid maybe, racist, no. His life, as a physician, as a politician was scrutinized, and he should be judged on his life record, not some silly picture.

When the primaries start I would expect the Republicans to raise Northam if they think it will advance their cause. It will only advance their cause if they think they can create discord between Democratic factions. Do you think they can use Northam to generate a split between Democratic factions? If so, how? Which factions?
