Rest in Peace
Truly a great man. The world needs more people like Elie Wiesel.
No more nightmares Mr. Wiesel.
Rest in Peace Mr. Wiesel.
Rest well Mr Wiesel. Your lessons will not be lost .
My father in law was in Germany, as a translator. He was not a man to share his experiences. When he did tell his stories they were a mix of the profound kindness of the German people, and atrocities the Nazi’s left behind.
I was listening to Night, narrated by George Guidall. Wiesel was describing the naivete of many of the Jews who felt the ghettos were actually a good thing because they had a measure of autonomy. Wiesel’s response to that terribly mistaken belief:
Sounds quite a lot like today.
RIP I read Night back in the 70’s when I was a teen in Sunday school. Back in 1985 I remember him pleading with Reagan urging him not to go to Bitburg but to no avail. An indelible moral voice.
My older daughter met him while in high school in Iowa, of all places. She had written a short poem in English class about the death of the young pipel in Night, and he signed the copy she presented to him.
I have thought of him often in the last few years. What a life.
RIP.
Some inspiring quotes from Wiesel, very nice story.
I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.
Anne Frank.
What an incredible man who lived an incredible life - I think he wrote 50 books in French and in a language not his own. He devoted his life to justice. This is a huge loss to the world. R.I.P.
Everything about this man was inspiring and beyond amazing. I am sad and I know people who really knew him are very sad and feel a tremendous loss.
Night is required reading in many, if not most, high schools. It should be, it’s extremely important.
It’s sad that he lived long enough to see the Presidential candidate of one of his adopted country’s major parties using a Star of David to perpetuate a centuries-old stereotype.
His writing makes us all witnesses to the Holocaust; which was his intent. We must continue to resist the forces that would repress others, else we fail as witnesses.
Rest in peace.
He led a life of dignity and truth.
Wiesel was a hero, in the true sense of the word.
For any place or time:
No human race is superior; no religious faith is inferior.
All collective judgments are wrong. Only racists make them.
Selah.
