Discussion: Eight House Republicans Buck Trump, Vote For Bill To Reopen Gov't Agencies

8 is not bad, was looking for something closer to 15 this round. It’s more evidence that the Congressional GOP wants Trump to walk the plank on this first, but that the long-term resolve of each is in question.

They would still have to come up with enough votes to override a Presidential veto.

“Buck Trump”? I prefer the more colorful, colloquial Truck Fump!

(or Tuck Frump if you prefer)

Who gives a shit what GOP representatives think? They’re in the minority. What’s important is defecting GOP senators. Where do we stand there? At least tell us how many there are. We need at least 12, I believe.

Granted the evil of Drumpf is beyond belief…

But, on the political level, no one beats McConnell for sustained, long-term malevolence to what this Constitution stands for.

Cnn reports trump threw a childish hissy fit and walked out of a meeting with Pelosi and Schumer when he did not get his way.
Some deal maker.
The time is ripe for indictments…

Cruelty again and rather than migrants and asylum seekers it is federal employees. He is such a horrible excuse for a human being.

It’s not surprising in the least, but it bears reiterating that these are “his” employees. People who work for an organization he currently heads, anyway. And he DGAF.

Yeah, I was too lazy to check. It’s actually 2/3 and that would require 19 Republicans.

Meh. At least the Coast Guard doesn’t do anything important like keep illegal immigrants and drugs out of the country.

So it’s fine if they’re sidelined for a while. No harm done to border security!

No wonder McCarthy is out there claiming Schumer is lying about the meeting. Aha!

What does it take to force McConnell’s hand, anyway? There is (or was) talk of Dems and perhaps a bloc of GOP senators refusing to proceed on any other issues until a floor vote is allowed. But that’s simply leverage. A Senate rules change takes a bare majority, I suppose–another “nuclear” option.

But what are the current rules? The House has a discharge petition. I’ve seen similar language applied to discharging a matter bottled up in a Senate committee, but is there an equivalent procedural move to force consideration of a bill? Even then you’d need 60 for cloture.
