Wait a minute, that wasn’t the top 1 percent. And they were living in handsome mansions and cottages, and it’s poor settlers who went out West and they defeated the Indians and the Mexican war.”

And why exactly isn’t he in jail? What’s with asking a known felon to come onto your show. MSNBC can complain all they want about these assholes and how they’re destroying the country but when you give a guy a forum to spout more stupidity, you’re basically complicit in keeping his infamy alive and kicking. Shame on MSNBC for having this nutjob on. It’s really no different then booking a bunch of conservatives week after week on MTP that run through their talking points by rote. D’Souza has nothing to offer other than uncivil discourse. What a waste of airtime.

He does actually have a point, though a very silly one. He’s talking about the progressives who still complain about how we took land from Indians and Mexico illegally (though I’m not sure I’m familiar with lefties complaining about the Mexico thing). And his point is that when liberals complain about genocide against the Indians, that that wasn’t the 1% who did it. It was poor settlers and immigrants responsible for that.
And well…I suppose there is a point about that. I mean, it’s always kind of bugged me to hear people complain about what “we” did to the Indians, when my people weren’t even in this country until that issue was largely settled. And even the people who were here weren’t all rushing to the West to steal land. So in regards to people who think we have some collective guilt as white people for what happened is a bit off and possibly racist. Why would all white people be responsible for the deeds of some white people?
But thus said, that’s a hugely silly point, because I don’t think there are many progressives who see Indian genocide as anything but a side issue, while the main issue remains inequality that’s happening right now. Not things that happened before our grandparents were alive. And so sure, there are progressives who are inadvertently attacking poor settlers for stealing land. But they’re still attacking the 1% for what’s happening now, so he really was speaking gibberish on this one. I’m sure it sounded much better in his head.
