Discussion: Documents: Ted Cruz Ticketed For Alcohol Possession As A Minor

I also heard Huckabee’s only had sex three times.

It was planted by agents of Fidel Castro.

This is the lest of the things about Cruz that should be worrisome.

Precisely my reaction … he claims to have made a foolish mistake as a teen, which is more than normal in the maturation process … the difference is some of us have moved on beyond the self-centered years of yore.

Big whoop.

Oh, noes! His political career…

just had an uptick.

There are far worse things for which he should, has and will be criticized.

There’s a Senator Ted with a drinking problem?
Yes, we know Mary Jo Kopechne died due to that problem, but he passed away didn’t he?

Oh, you’ve got something trivial, but we should care more about this one because he’s not a Democrat?

Go ask Obama about using coke & pot as a kid.
Then still wonder why everyone is laughing at you some more because you can’t figure it out… As I’m sure you’ll still be confused.

He leaked it himself, so it doesn’t come out in a primary. He is as good as announcing his candidacy.

His “absurd on issues” are much more preferable than those of a fellow Texan running around in pink tennis shoes advocating for the termination of human life for no other reason than an inconvenience resulting from a moment of indescretion. If the alcohol posession as a minor is the “best” you have we are fortunate he is a potential presidental candidate and that he is in the U.S. Senate.

Cruz did not leak this information. He was required by law to answer the question “Have you ever been subject to deferred adjudication, indictment, conviction, probation, or fined for a crime other than a traffic offense?” on his application to become Solicitor General of Texas in 2003. Any false or omitted information would have cost him the job. Moreover, this information became public only by virtue of a Texas Public Information request.

I don’t understand all these magnanimous dismissals. No one is suggesting this is impeachment-worthy information, nor is it a fact you want to lead with in a campaign against Cruz. It is just one more little hypocritical fact about the conservative preacher’s son and all his sycophantic supporters who are still, to this day, calling Obama a “druggie.” How many times have I read the laments of posters here who complain that taking the high road is why Democrats get thrashed by Republicans in local elections? Again, you don’t have to parade this trivial fact, but why are so many people throwing it back like an undersized mackerel? It’s not just a ticket – it actually constitutes a guilty plea for an underage substance crime and the fact of it may serve a purpose at some indeterminate point in the future – who’s to say? Consider the obvious layers of illegality here: was Cruz planning to drink and drive? How did he procure the case of beer? With a fraudulent ID? Where did he get that? Or did he pay an adult to purchase the beer for him? Regardless of whether it was sold, given or otherwise provided to Cruz, all states have laws that punish such activity as a crime.

Just stow the information away for a rainy day.

It’s not that he made a foolish mistake back when he was younger. It’s that he didn’t learn a darn thing from the incident and continues to make foolish mistakes that now have serious implications for all of us. He’s still the idiotic little boy he was back then. I’ll give him a pass for that, but not for his childish antics in Congress.

This may be the only thing he’s ever done that makes him seem less like a douchebag.

I’m incredibly grateful to see that I’m not alone among the TPM brain trust in thinking this story is a waste of pixels. Come on TPM Staffers, can we puh-leeze stay at least 3 steps above Huffpo at all times???

…and in other news, my congress-critter, Tim Walz (D-1st, MN) was arrested in NE for stretching the speed limit, and DUI

It might be a ridiculous story, but it’s pertinent for two reasons.

He’s a sanctimonious a$$hole, and his “team” uses exactly the same types of attacks (trivial things that happened long ago), day in and day out. As ye sow, so shall ye reap.

It provides a very nice demonstration of the fact that there is an organized trolling effort by conservatives any time there’s a negative story about one of their own. There’s relatively few comments here at 7:30AM CST but looks to me like half of them are from newbie conservative trolls and half from the usual suspects on “our” side.

Funny how that works…

Exactly right.

It’s hardly the top story of the day, just a little something to pull out the next time your cray-cray aunt starts up about how PBO was a drug dealer.

I know it! Don’t you just hate those conservatives who have the ballz to make their views known??

So I guess Walz shouldn’t run for President either.

Wow, going 96 and being drunk can kill people. This guy should immediately be removed from office.
