I don’t think that registers with most people here – he’s seen as a liberal, nothing more. The 2018 primary electorate is going to be half liberal at least. Hirono is not beloved like Sen. Akaka was, so Gabbard will have the enthusiasm on her side. Her base of young volunteers is in her first two races was extremely strong. This will only help with them.
I know nothing of her but what I have read over the past year and my impression is one of a craven opportunist.
Bernie is NOT a Democrat, Tulsi! That is what the “I” means - independent NOT Democrat. Hope you quit the party too! Bernie is NOT going to unite Democrats - he isn’t one!!!
Oh, will she be on the same list as Trumka?
yes, I agree! Having choices is a good thing for democracy.
And I say this as someone who likes both candidates, actually personally prefer Bernie, but am finding myself more and more likely to vote for Hillary next Tuesday. So for me, I have valued the fact that there are two good candidates and I’ve found it very useful to hear their debates over the past couple months. I’ve had a lot of opportunity to think about who I should support and why.
I certainly would be very annoyed if there weren’t any choices or any debate. I have a real hard time with the idea that one person should be held up as the inevitable candidate and we should all just follow along. That leaves people out of the process, reduces public participation, and adds to the feeling that why should we bother… the decisions are already made. That is NOT the way to get people energized to vote.
I really wish there was a little bit more understanding and less sniping around here towards people who are supporting different candidates. No candidate is entitled to the position, every candidate needs to earn the support of voters… during each go-around. And between these two candidates, there are good reasons to support either of them. So I think we should all cut each other a little break.
I know for myself, this has been one of the harder election choices I’ve had to make. I appreciate the fact that the issues have been front and center and that there’s been a lot to think about in making my decision.
It wasn´t empty. I thought it was a passive-agreesive way to marginalize Gabbard, as ¨American Samoan Hindus¨ are not a large cohort in the D party.
Stupid. If you have all the Ds who support Sanders leave the party, we would lose to even Trump.
Yes, quite.
who has foresight, who exercises good judgment," Gabbard said
Though given the circumstances-- the SC results yesterday-- and the likelihood of a snowball effect on Tuesday?
I’d say that Rep Gabbard may have this foresight/good judgment thing backward-- with regard to timing.

I am in full agreement with your post (as I usually am!), but this is a statement that I wish everyone on her team had pushed back from minute one: I feel it should be “her entire public life”.
She keeps being cast as a “lifelong politician” although she was first elected to office in 2000.
As for this:
If you haven’t seen Meryl Streep’s introduction for Hillary at the 2012 Women’s Summit, it is sincerely worth your time to hear the under-the-radar efforts Hillary has made as SOS that she gets no credit for.
You and @condew with your conspiracy theories! How about: if a DNC official wants to endorse someone, they have to quit their party job. Occam’s razor ftw!
And, pre-preemptively, I thought of that comment all by myself. Did not read on any pro-Clinton site. Actually, not repeating anyone, that I know of.
BikerDad, please read carefully. I said that DWS´s statement was passive-aggressive. I never said or otherwise implied anything about any conspiracy.

There are other indications that she is non too tightly wrapped.
Personally, I’d love to see a female VP. And she’s a veteran, too. Icing on the cake.
Right. It was an authorization to use military force after the Bush administration lied massively about how Hussein had amassed weapons of mass destruction.
That doesn’t make any sense to me at all. If what you said about Gabbard is true, wouldn’t she be supporting Hillary instead of Bernie?
Tena, I´m assuming that Gabbard´s decision perhaps has something to do with HRC´s decisive advocacy for the failed policy in Libya, covered here on the NYT front page today.
Not just her political life. She began when she left law school and before becoming First Lady in Arkansas.
When are women EVER going to get any place in this world if they do notrespect their own gender? When there is a time to pick a man against a woman It rarely happens that women protect themselves or stand their ground and unite. We always her about women constantly prejusiced against by men for promotions[ glass ceiling affect} Well DUH if you do protect your ownself or respect yourself how the hell will you ever get anywhere.
I’m so sorry, I was distracted.

“There is a clear contrast between our two candidates with regard to my strong belief that we must end the interventionist, regime change policies that have cost us so much. This is not just another ‘issue.’ This is THE issue, and it’s deeply personal to me. This is why I’ve decided to resign as Vice Chair of the DNC so that I can support Bernie Sanders in his efforts to earn the Democratic nomination in the 2016 presidential race.”

EDITED TO ADD: I am a Hillary supporter – but I see no need to attack this woman. Hillary has plenty of endorsements and this will not be such a blow. She can address the above sentiment and I am sure can do so effectively.
EDITED AGAIN: I have to say, When I wrote this original post a few hours ago, I was basing my opinion on very little information – just her statement and the way she presented herself. I thought to give her the benefit of the doubt. However, below on this thread, more people are digging and posting links to her past statements. I am no longer sure she is acting in good faith, and I really do not know if Sanders will benefit from this association. I don’t have time right now to go do research on her, but I will before jumping to a positive or negative conclusion. She might just be hard to categorize – anyway, I don’t see her as threatening to Hillary in the primary – but if she keeps beating the drum during the general, then that is a different story.
