Agreed. For any Democrat to expect to deal with anyone in this “administration” in good faith, is laughable. This “administration” is littered, top to bottom, with pieces of sh!t. There should be no pretense here. Attack this mother effer. Go for the jugular. End this.

It’s the first 15 minutes of day one. I think that each committee chair should give the administration till close of business friday to demonstrate that they’re suddenly going to act in good faith.

On the one hand, I can rant and rave and throw poop and cover my keyboard in spittle about wah wah why won’t they do it now!!!1 Big conspiracy, probably! Or corrupt! Money in politics! Eleven!
On the other hand, I try to keep sight of my own limits of knowledge and competence, and I assume Democratic leadership knows politics better than I do.
All I’m saying is, Dunning-Kruger ain’t just for the dotard. Hell if I know how to work the levers of popularity and power. I just go out and vote.

I don’t think Neal has made the case for making the case. It is a basic precept of democratic government that our public servants must disclose their private financial interests. The longer you make the case for this, the more you undermine the basic precept. Next thing we know, Democrats will be saying, “It’s true that Mueller reported that Trump ran his campaign in cahoots with a foreign adversary and sold US interests for private profit. But we need to make the case that this is wrong.” Some values are self-evident. Basic financial transparency is one such thing–particularly in the case of a mogul president who appears to be tailoring US foreign policy for private profit. Democrats need to be absolutely direct and clear about this, not engage in waffling half-measures that will only cloud matters. You won a historic victory in the midterms. Tear off the bandaid.

The other question that arises is “Which tax returns?” Because trump’s personal 1040 – if his accountants are any good at all – will be fairly short and mostly opaque, with a bunch of deductions and a few sources of income (whatever they called the trump umbrella company) and not much information.
You’ll have to go into the returns of the hundreds or thousands of subsidiary enterprises (some owned just by him, probably others with his kids’ names on them as well) to figure out what’s really going on.

Which tax returns? Any and all tax returns that have a bearing on the financial interests of our public servant, the president. It’s not our fault he chose to hide them in a thousand subsidiaries, like a money launderer. Set up an Anti-Corruption sub-committee. Subpoena all Trump enterprises. Do it now. If we wait till next year, it will become an electoral rallying point for him.
