Was McC. unaware that so many provisions were going to be Byrdable?
I’ll admit I thought McC. had this nailed down ages ago. Is he losing his touch or is the GOP now too fractured to act as a governing body?

I don’t see it that way. If anything, Republican senators opposed to the bill will be even more reluctant to back it. And putting out multiple potential bills, as some kind of head fake, will put others off.
Possibly, but I read something which indicated that Murkowski and Capito’s opposition has softened. The tweet wasn’t completely clear to me, so I could be wrong.
What I don’t hear is some small number of Senators stating publicly that they oppose McConnell’s method.
Rules? We don’t need no stinking rules.
Parliamentarian? Sounds British. Don’t need that either.
Byrd? Died in 2010.
Trump: Good. Who can do anything about it? I am The Boss. I want money from ObamaCare to pay for my rich buddies. I control everything.
I’m not as sure as you that McC. has the edge at the moment. Until McCain returns, doesn’t he have only one ‘nay’ to give away? Are there any versions of BCRA that can thread that needle?
I don’t know what concessions Mitch made that could soften their opposition, but I guess we’ll see next week.
I hope you are wrong. But then again, I know that all these commie sonsofbitches wake up every morning, stand before a picture of Barack Obama and scream wildly for 2 full minutes.
Motivation.
I’m on that ship with you Randy and was going to say so but agreeing with you accomplishes that.
Hey, we are concurring without breaking any rules, bending any rules or adjusting any rules to suit our purposes. That wasn’t hard at all ; )
I went ahead and sent those two a fax. Doesn’t (completely) matter that I’m not a resident of their states: they’re making decisions that affects all of us, adversely.
This is all so pathetic. God damn them, everyone of them.
Can you imagine how these guys will act if there is some terror attack which Trump says requires a military response?
He could overrule the parliamentarian, but that essentially means the end of the filibuster at a time when the republicans aren’t geared to take advantage of it.
Too bad the GOP Congress hasn’t gotten that message.
The terror attack is from within, so they’d have to bomb themselves. I’m sure Donald could make sense of that somehow in less than 140 characters.
Look, he’s practically instigated a war with Qatar, which may have been revenge for a loan which Jared was denied.
He could say “Iran did it. We have conclusive proof. The bombing starts tomorrow” and the Senate would say go ahead—and, how about nukes?
Republicans would be hoist by their own petard when the Democrats retake Congress.
Always believed this bill didn’t pass muster under the Byrd rule. I still think the parliamentarian’s ruling was too conservative. IMHO, the way this bill is drafted, it’s quite clear that Mitch is cramming a policy preference into a budget context, which to my mind is simply a scam. He’s abusing the Byrd rule to impose an ideological view, rather than addressing matters of the budget.
Yes, they are expending so much energy to cause pain and suffering, and enrichment, when they could just work on the product in front of them and do the best that is possible with it and move on.
I guess they don’t get many opportunities to erase their political nemesis, gut the oppositions programs they’ve long loathed, transfer wealth onto their version of where and to whom it belongs and set up a system where future profits all head to the same small circle of like-minded individuals.
This to them I believe is worth taking the shots and worth the loss of political capital.
Surely they could just legislate along with the rest of their house if they weren’t so blinded by the glory of fulfilling all their dreams in one fell swoop?
And mind you, this is on an early draft, before McConnell started throwing in random crap to appease people and bribes for specific votes.
