I know Jason Kander. I am close friends with his mother. Roy Blunt has been lying his face off in ads for the past two months about Kander’s service record and voting record, and this is the response.
He’s a good guy with a good record in the state, and he’s pretty well liked. He just had VP Biden through last week stumping with him. The polls show them pretty close to statistically tied and Blunt is freaking out as the incumbent as Kander is running a pretty amazing campaign.
Is this perhaps less tasteful than what we would like of a Dem Senate candidate? Sure. But it’s easy to point fingers from safe blue districts if we don’t know what sells or what doesn’t somewhere like Missouri.
Yeah, that’s the problem right there. There are a depressingly large number of people who DO care, and who completely buy into the crap about the brave manly men of the GOP vs. the spineless cowards in the Dems. If this stunt gets through to even a few of them, it will have been worth it.
In a TV ad released Thursday, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate from
Missouri shows off his Second Amendment bona fides by assembling an
AR-15 rifle … while blindfolded.
…
But can he do it with a Kalashnikov 47?
I guess voters in Missouri hafta be shown (after all it is the “show me” state). Just saying he was an Army Captain and served in Afghanistan isn’t good enough for the voters there.
sheesh
Field assembly of a rifle should not need to be a skill for office.
I seem to have taken away a completely different message from anyone else here. What I heard is, “I’m someone who actually understands guns (proves it). That’s why I know that background checks make sense. That Blunt guy…he talks a lot about guns in a careless way that makes me think he knows squat.” Holds rifle safely at end of message instead of pointing it at viewers, as so many loud-mouth GOP babblers do. I liked this ad a lot.
Missouri voters have more problems with guns then this ad, the legislature override the Governor’s veto by 24-6 by the Senate and 112-41 from the Missouri House that includes a lifetime conceal and carry permit with the elimination of all permit requirements including gun training, and a “stand your ground” law that they can defend themselves if they “feel” threatened. Now what could go wrong with this law? They also override his veto on voter ID
Do we really want him, though? If he thinks this is important, then otherwise how liberal is he? Owning an AR-15 is a huge character flaw as far as I’m concerned and I can’t imagine the mental gymnastics someone must go through to be both pro assault rifle and pro choice.
Sorry Josh. I simply cannot read with all that movement on the page. Back in the day I actually put stickies on my computer screen at work to cover that shit up.
He’s assembling that particular weapon because he was in the military. Did you even watch the ad, or just read the clickbait headline?
Because you are never going to sell a complete ban on guns in Missouri. I’m Canadian and even I know that. What Kander supports is background checks and responsible gun ownership and even me as a bleeding heart progressive recognizes and respects someone’s right to own a firearm if they want one, can pass all necessary permit/license and background checks, and can be educated to do it responsibly.
Just because I wouldn’t doesn’t mean someone else shouldn’t.
It shouldn’t be. But it’s a hell of an effective tool to shut up a congressional lifer who’s up to the eyeballs in lobbyist money and lying about your military record and voting record on gun control in the state.
He just pantsed a sitting US Senator. I am NO fan of guns but even I can clap for an effective takedown like this.
It would be just awesome to get rid of Roy Blunt. And since Blunt has the NRA endorsements and ads against Kandor, this is his way of hitting back at the NRA ads.
It is what it is - I would love to see him get elected.
