Discussion: Dem Senate Nominee Assembles Rifle While Blindfolded In TV Ad (VIDEO)

Imho, our country is slowly, but steadily becoming “Idiot America” - CP Pierce (great read)

The recently re-disgraced ‘Carlos Danger’ would seem to prove otherwise.

Sort of off topic: I would like to hear the clip, but on my computer TPMs sidebar video ads play at the same time, are louder, and as far as I can tell, can’t be turned off.

The most common attack from the right on guns is that the left doesn’t understand them, and doesn’t understand gun culture. Assembling the rifle blindfolded shows that he’s used guns, is comfortable around them, doesn’t have an inherent problem with them, and isn’t reacting out of fear or ignorance when he proposes gun control laws.

I hate those ads where someone shoots a printout of the ACA… or makes ‘machine gun bacon’ with a gun that isn’t actually a machine gun… But this was effective. It completely defuses the “you don’t know what you’re talking about” argument, is impressive to someone who hasn’t undergone military training, and isn’t some cringe-worthy pandering display. Just a simple demonstration to prove his opinion is informed by personal experience - that he’s making the argument as a gun owner, not from the outside in.

The main thing this ad will do is undercut the “Democrats hate guns and want to take yours” meme that Republicans use. That’s very effective somewhere like Missouri, and with that off the table Kander will have an easier time talking about the other things that matter.

Liar. He can swallow the thing whole. No need for disassembly at all.

That ad will play well in Missouri, a state where Blunt barely shows his face.

I see what you did there…

That’s true but if the NRA is against him, I’m for him.

Either get Prime or AdBlock.

Actually, the point that he’s attacking is the characterization of Democrats as being afraid of guns and not knowing anything about them. He’s clearly not afraid of the tools he’s learned to use. As he said, he served, and he learned to respect his weapon, and the second amendment. Knowing his weapon inside and out, and more, knowing what it means to use the weapon, means he’s not fetishizing it the way Blunt and many other Republicans do.

I love the ad. But then I have lived in Texas way too long, and have had the misfortune of experiencing bacon-cooking Ted Cruz in person.

Well put.

If it helps get him elected instead of Roy Blunt? Then yes, yes it will.

And when he does he has a few old veterans surrounding him. I don’t get it, Blunt routinely votes against veterans’ aid or VA improvement, but sure does like to rag on entitlements.

Sleeping with the producer will get an actress a part in the movie. Stooping to such measures nevertheless remains a less than honorable means to your ends.

I hate to say it, but things have reached a point where this really is the only kind of thing that will get through to some people. I just might have to take a look at the rest of Kander’s positions and consider sending him some support.

Actresses gotta eat, too. I should also note that typically in that situation the scorn and ‘this was a dick move’ is aimed at the producer; the one with the power, not the one with the desperation.

Anything that kills the sissy label Republicans try to pin on Democrats every election cycle, and every day on Fox, is just fine by me.

I think it was a well-constructed riposte to NRA and GOP anti-gun-legislation propaganda. It says:

I believe in sensible gun laws to keep guns out of the hands of bad guys, because I know guns well enough that I can assemble a machine gun blindfolded. Can you do that, Blunt, you gun-slavering, penis-substituting, Republican dickless wonder?
