Discussion: Dem. Rep: Email Controversy 'Could Upend' Hillary Clinton's Campaign

Discussion for article #239644

And there’s the appearance of dishonesty, if it’s not dishonest.

THAT is the whole point. I’m not saying this will upend her campaign, but it has not been helpful. Setting up an entirely different server from the gov and doing ALL your business on there without a doubt is giving the impression you are hiding something, even if you are not. It was dumb.

Additionally, A State Dept Memo in 2011 from Hillary herself said to AVOID doing government business on private emails. Not only did she not abide by her own memo, she actually did the complete opposite by doing ALL her gov business on private email, essentially “do as I say, not as I do”. One of the worst things a manager or leader can do.

How anyone can debate that what she did was not “stupid” is incomprehensible. Sure, it was not “illegal”, and no liberals are saying it was. Many of us are saying it was “stupid”, and in private I am sure even Hillary is agreeing with that statement. As soon as she sent out that memo, she should have changed her way of sending emails.

The record has not been set straight, and I am thinking maybe the communications set-up of a Secretary of State is confidential. It is untrue to say she conducted all her business via e-mail. Of course that’s not true. She mostly used it to schedule other kinds of communication. She had a secure fax (one of the e-mails involved setting it up). Classified information is run through a totally different system, not the Internet we use. I know this from comments at the Washington Post, where a lot of people on the comment boards have worked in government. I don’t know if this was a travelling set up or something accessed at embassies (probably the latter). She also really likes personal meetings. I’m reading Hard Choices right now. She is very person-to-person. It is a complete distortion to say that e-mail was her primary means of anything.

Nope. The only thing that can upend her campaign is Dems/Indies not going out and voting for her. I’m not a supporter of hers but you’d better believe that I will vote for a Dem who can win. She can win. Yes, what she did was stupid considering that she was always looking to run for POTUS. However, I want a Dem that can win. Right now, (unfortunately) she’s the only one.

This constant smiping at her from Democrats is unnerving. She is a fighter and has more experience than anyone except Joe Biden, who has his own negative. Bernie will seem too extreme for the vast middle, and a lot of what he proposes is not practica, whereas Clinton is quite pragmatic. We have months to go, so I hope they go through that damn server and find all those e-mails about Chelsea’s wedding. What a crock. Get real, people. We need a Democrat in the White House like we’ve never needed one before!

Yarmuth is a blue dog democrat. He would probably say anything against the front runner of the democratic party because he is really a republican.

The only thing driving this email “scandal” is the fucking media. There was no law that said she couldn’t use a private server when she was in office and the fucking emails in question were retroactively classified, after her term as Secretary of State. This entire affair is nothing more than the media wanting a juicy “scandal”, finding none, so making one up.

The State newspaper is running a 50 Days To Kick-off series in its sport section where on each of those 50 days a different person will give their assessment of this year’s Gamecock squad.
On the local sports site that I frequent, the only articles of the series that are covered are the negative articles. This is exactly how TPM is covering HRC.

With (blue dog) dems like this, who needs gop/bags…

Just look at the other side…nothing to see or vote for there!

No one is saying that, obviously she used the phone, etc. What is being said is that she conducted all her gov emails through a private server. All of them. Meanwhile in 2011 she sent a memo to all her staff directing them to avoid doing that same thing. That is the issue, the dumbness of it. At this point in no way does it appear she did anything even remotely illegal. Even the classified emails she got were not labeled as such at the time from everything I have seen

??Anyone can take a piece of classified into and send it out onto the internet. Not relevant to this, but anyone can do that. Hell, Robert Novak published classified info in a newspaper column.

Yes, Indies are the key, and she is losing them with this stupid behavior. But at this point she still has a good lead on any Republican, and almost all Dems will still vote for her of course. But Indies are vital.

I’m voting for Bernie in the Primary, but of course if Hillary gets the nomination she gets my vote, no brainer for sure.

Exactly!

I for one don’t give a good goddamn if she used her gmail account. What is the big deal, and who cares besides the gop/bags?

They’ve had a benghazi-gasim for three years now. IF, they ever found anything, they and their media minions, would have been screeching it from the rooftops by now!

YARMUTH! He is a DINO or the worst kind.
““I just never feel like I have a grasp of what the facts are,” Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY)” can be said about him on just about EVERY SUBJECT.

It’s just more proof of the old Will Rogers quote: “I’m not a member of any organized political party. I’m a Democrat.”

Combining probability theory, the small world theory and the fact that everything we think we know about the laws of physics is ultimately based on inductively derived postulates, there’s a chance I might get a booty call from Megan Fox or eat some bad beans and fart flying monkeys. Stop the presses.

Once again, Hillary’s biggest problem is . . . Hillary. She cannot campaign very well, as it does not come naturally as it did for Bill. She cannot help herself when she speaks “conveniently” rather than honestly. That DOES come naturally for her. And every time an issue arises, she gets herself stuck in a mire of quag. Like now.

While she has a variety of talents, and clearly she was a better SOS than her kinda-sleazy predecessor, at some point people will realize that her natural character is not presidential caliber. She would rather tell a convenient lie and hope an issue goes away, rather than bite the bullet and face the flotsam and jetsam that the first of many storms may bring her.

Yes, it’s like that scene in “Dumb and Dumber” when the Jim Carey character ask the hot chick for a date:

LLOYD
–Come on, give it to me straight. I
drove a long way to see you, the least
you can do is level with me. What
are my chances?

MARY
Not good.

LLOYD
You mean not good, like one out of a
hundred?

MARY
I’d say more like one out of a
million.

LLOYD
So you’re telling me there’s a chance?

Using her email to communicate only with government computers was how she intended to assure that there was a government record of those emails. If her staff was not on government emails this purpose would have been defeated.

In the FOIA case the point is made that there was communication between herself and some her aides to their private emails. The question is whether this was Federal business or some form of private communication (possibly advice and discussion between themselves such as might occur talking to staff in the office which is not required to be even recorded and is not Federal business) which is not covered.

I’d like to hear the opinion of a lawyer knowledgeable in this field as to what is covered and what is not.

She is far more honest than any of the GOP candidates including Trump.

It won’t and this guy knows that. He’s from KY…a GOP’er state …we get that. He needs this to make sure his campaign isn’t upended. We get that too.

Given the poor choice to make this an issue now…with 16 months to go before it matters it ain’t likely it will be much of a thing then. It really isn’t now. But if its the best the GOP has they are done.
