just because you don’t think you are a bigot does not mean you are not a bigot, Ms Heriot.

That she was appointed to the Commission by Republicans and continues to serve there and holds these opinions is about as damning a fact as I can think of.

Nationwide, the GOP is doubling down on efforts to deny basic human rights…nationwide…gay marriage, transgender rights, bathrooms, hate crime definitions.

…This is your GOP America…embrace it~~~

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) ___ You are my Hero of the Day!

[Heriot, a law professor at the University of San Diego, was appointed
to the U.S. Commission on Human Rights 2007 after she was recommended
by Senate Majority Leader ***Mitch McConnell (R-KY)***. She was recommended by McConnell for another term in 2013 and was confirmed to serve on the Commission until 2019.] Ummm Hummm…

Putting ‘Federalist Society’ member Heriot on a commission on human rights makes as much sense as putting Dracula on the board of directors of a blood bank. Par for the course for the Baggers and their pols.

Herot is the lead counsel attached to Fisher v. University of Texas (No. 14-981), trying to essentially negate any efforts by educational institutions to craft admittance standards taking into account the race of applicants, in their efforts at remediating centuries of discrimination that barred them from higher education opportunities.

Reminds me of my favorite deposition, of a hotel bigwig. I was questioning him on a document that clearly said something that wasn’t good for him:

Bigwig: (angrily) That document could say that [Bigwig’s name] sleeps with raccoons for all I care, and it still wouldn’t be correct!!

Me: (5-sec pause while looking at him blankly, then quietly and innocently): Do you?

Bigwig: (confusedly): Excuse me? Do I what?

Me: (blank-faced, quietly and innocently): Sleep with raccoons.

I don’t remember his response, but the court reporter lost her composure.

As someone who knows quite a few families who decided to home school after dealing with school districts unwilling to put in safeguards for medically vulnerable children, home school is “not just for scary religious people anymore.”

Mitch McConnell appointed her. Mitch McConnell thinks that Human Rights include the right to segregated schools and places of worship, and former Confederate “States Rights”.

Republican conservatives believe it’s up to government to determine what you may believe.

Good for you, Zoe. Conservatives count on them having all the press and opponents having none, in order to be “fair”, they claim, and not let conservatives feel bad.

Take action.

I can’t believe people make arguments like this. It’s like the development of the logical part of their brain stopped at age 5. “If someone can feel like a woman then I can just say I’m the President!” I mean, that’s just mind-boggling. I bet she also steals dinnerware from restaurants on account of their being free after-dinner mints. “If they say I can take those, I can take anything I want!!!”

Then again, we all hold seemingly contradictory positions. I believe in everyone’s right to vote, but also think it’s sad that this woman gets to exercise hers.

Probably meant United Nations CoHR.

This is what happens when Democrats don’t win Congress. This bigot finds herself on the US Commission on Human Rights and is considered a sufficient expert to give actual testimony on the record. That is insane.

What I don’t understand is how does any law school retain its accreditation with her on the faculty. I pity the poor law students in her classes.

I’m sorry, but “You are an ignorant bigot” isn’t a challenge, it’s an insult. Ms. Lofgren is probably right, but if she wants to challenge the opposition, she should engage it. This goes for progressives in general. Ignorant means stupid and bigot means asshole; you know, they know it. It doesn’t elevate the discourse one bit.

It makes liberals look like they don’t have an argument beyond “You’re a stupid asshole.” If you really know something they don’t, then tell it to them. Ms. Heriot’s testimony was snide and dismissive and designed to rile people up. Lofgren took the bait. There’s a reason these folks will line up behind anything that boils us – it’s the plan.

I haven’t seen a repudiation in these comments, either; just insults and outrage.
