Go Zoe. Hooray!
Lofgren read aloud part of the testimony from Gail Heriot, a member of the United States Commission on Human Rights, according to a clip from the hearing highlighted by the Huffington Post.
Seriously? That’s like putting Trump in charge of La Raza.
How did a Russian Princess get on the Human Rights Commission? And are we sure s/he isn’t a Prince? Did anybody dig in to check?
Jesus H. Christ on a crutch! These Rethugs are so stupid, their own analogies are just asinine.
Aside from the fact that thinking you’re an owl and knowing what gender you honestly relate to is like comparing apples to carburators, the point is that Dems don’t care if she thinks she’s Princess Anastasia or a Great Horned Owl. So what. We don’t feel threatened by non-existent issues. Did this idiot really think her retort was intelligent?
Bravo Congresswoman Lofgren, bravo! And, thank you for ignoring the ridiculous grade school humor these heartless clods consistently use to excuse their perverted thoughts.
Now the idea that Steve King could find anyone out of order…that is funny.

[/quote] That was the first question that popped into my head. She sounds less like a credible authority and more like an arrogant, prudish, narrow-minded home school mom.
Further proof that the GOP is now getting all of its talking points from basement internet trolls.
More please. AND LOUDER.
COnfused. IS she an owL OR a Russian PRincess? And which BATHRooM IS AN OWL Supposed TO USE?
Thank you, Congesswoman! That was a thing of beauty. And thanks for pulling the discussion back to what it is really about: Children.
We’re not talking about female impersonators. We’re talking about children who are going through a tougher transition than I can possibly imagine.
What a specious argument and an ugly attitude and I’m really grateful the woman got called on it.
recommended by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). She was recommended by McConnell for another term in 2013 and was confirmed to serve on the Commission until 2019.
Isn’t this like Nigeria appointing someone to the UN Human Rights Commission? It’s what they have a right to do, but why is the Fox appointing guards for the Henhouse?
Rep. Lofgren is an excellent Representative. She should have declined to reach down Ms. Heirot’s pants to confirm her gender and think it’s improper for other government employees to do the same.
This would’ve been a great response followed with “how would you like the government to check?”
Obviously a Republican appointment to the Human Rights Commission. Republicans put evolution deniers on the science committees, they put Michele Bachmann on the Intelligence Committee and so forth. Putting bigots on the Human Rights Commission is par for the course.
I can’t believe Carol Burnett pranked a House Committee so easily.
Actually, Boehner putting Bachmann on the Intelligence Committee was a very clever move. It gave her one important committee, sparing him from having to put her on other important committees. Neither Bachmann nor her fans could then complain that the leadership wasn’t treating her with respect.
And, because much of what the Committee learns and hears is classified, she wasn’t able to spout off about it in public.
They drop nice pellets on the ground and then innocent children have to dissect them in grade school. It is DISGUSTING, I tell you!
makes one very proud to be a Bay Area resident… another beautiful Bay Area politician
if you need something to do this weekend then Bay Area diversity at its best…
"I think you’re a bigot, lady. I think you are an ignorant bigot," the congresswoman [Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA)] said.Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told Lofgren she was “out of order,” but Lofgren insisted on finishing her remarks.
“Mr. Chairman, it is my time, and I would just like to say that we allow witnesses to say offensive things, but I cannot allow that kind of bigotry to go into the record unchallenged,” she said.
Heriot jumped in once more to ask, “Does that mean you think I am a Russian princess?”
“I have no idea,” Lofgren replied.
Lofgren missed out on the perfect rejoinder here:
I’ve already told you what I think of you.
Gail Heriot, a member of the United States Commission on Human Rights
What exactly is this “United States Commission on Human Rights”…?
We have a United States Commission on Civil Rights, me thinks TPM needs an editor (still).
Of course she is a Federalist Society turd and was appointed to the post by the GOP controlled Congress.
