Democracy? Nope no Democracy here.

It’s the part where the raging Koch-owned assholes assume they’re permanently gerrymandered into the majority no matter what that’s particularly upsetting.

They do have some sort of separation of powers in NC, don’t they? In theory?

If districts are tightly gerrymandered, they’re easier to flip with enough movement of people. It would be hilarious if all these measures passed and then NC dems moved themselves around to take over the Assembly.

North Carolina could have such potential. It’s a beautiful state, they just need to get the rednecks out of power.

“Republicans are accusing Cooper of using the courts to try to undermine the will of voters.”

So a man elected by the voters…doing the job for which those voters elected him…would undermine the will of those voters?

That’s some flawless Aristotelian logic, right there.

They meant to say “those people” voters, apparently…

Apparently, their real objective is to motivate demoralized conservatives to vote. They did the same thing by scheduling the anti-gay marriage amendment for a midterm a few years back.

A microcosm of the type of shit the GOP will be trying to pull in the federal gov’t eventually.

What’s the matter, don’t like democracy*?

  • GOP: “it’s not democracy unless we win”

Yes. White wealthy people hold all of it while the rest, particularly poor minorities, have none.

Assuming that was somewhat of a bust…amiright? Since SCOTUS has made clear states can’t do that…

Or is it more like, separating the power from, the people?

Most definitely not to be confused with “Power to the People”

Indeed they do. They keep the power separated from the voters.

Yeah, gerrymandering is actually very vulnerable to wave elections.

Projection: It’s how conservatives deal with reality.

Does NC have an urban rural schism, even among Republicans?

And from what I’ve seen explained the power they are taking from the governor to put into the hands of the Assembly means that the voters don’t have a say on who controls these boards and commissions.

Also why didn’t they just cut the governor’s salary while they are at it? Strip him of any healthcare benefits, make him pay for his security, hell make him pay rent to live in the governor’s mansion while in office?

The GOP is more a criminal enterprise than a political party these days.

Good on Gov. Cooper, the NC GOP consistently seems to be one of the more anti-Democratic and anti-American state parties out there. It will be a good day when they are completely wiped off the map of having any legislative power in that state.
