Unfortunately this is not incredible.

Okay, I got this exactly backwards and I don’t know how given my utter disgust at the time. They did it during the 2012 primaries. They deliberately bypassed the opportunity to use it as a wedge issue in the 2012 general and, instead, did it during the primary where there was no Democratic presidential primary race to speak of because that optimized their chance to pass the goddamned thing. Worked like a charm. Passed 61% to 39% when the polling was running slightly against it.

And yeah, it was declared unconstitutional by the Fourth Circuit in 2014, a year before SCOTUS ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges.

In a Saturday statement, Rep. David Lewis, Chairman of the House Redistricting Committee, called such claims “ridiculous conspiracy theories” and say the policies in the proposed amendments “are overwhelmingly popular.”

Sounds like a typical Reactionary “made-up mandate” since no one’s even read them yet. The mendacity of these assholes is off the scale.

I don’t think that is going to work. I doubt the Southern Baptist types will get too stirred up over these amendents – they are intended to hamstring the governor and turn the state Supreme Court red but don’t take away the rights of women or LGBT. I think it might have the opposite effect and help get out the Blue vote to block them.

Corruption.

Heck, just get rid of the Executive Branch while they are at it. Who needs a Governor anyway???

If you can’t win the vote – cheat. None of this was important until a Democrat became Governor. They were happy with how it was when it was a GOPer.

One more step by Repuglicans to take us toward an authoritarian dictatorship. These attempts are getting closer and closer to treason.

Karl Rove is on record saying he wants a permanent one party state. I can see that considering how his boss “won” the office he was seeking with a little help from five members of the Supreme Court.

All you really need to do is look at a night map.

Rural Down East, there is a white majority in most counties and a large minority. In some, like Robeson where the Lumbee tribe is centered, there’s minority majority. In the rural west, outside Asheville, it’s very white and very Republican.

And there is basically one megalopolis along the I-40 and I-85 corridors from Charlotte to Greensboro where I-40 runs into 85, and along I-40 from Winston Salem to Raleigh’s eastern 'burbs, with very abrupt transitions to white rurality to the immediate north and south along 40 and east and west along 85 that create extremely good gerrymandering opportunities, both for packing and for cracking. Winston-Salem, at the far western end of the Interstate megalopolis is especially easy to gerrymander, particularly at the Federal level, as one county west, south and north, boom, Appalachian foothill white rural and deeply Republican.
