Discussion for article #241514
I think he’s correct.
I understand HRC just came out opting the TPP
Indeed it is tasteless. Pity is not a good enough reason to vote for any candidate.
I’m sorry to say it, and I’m grateful to David Axelrod, but he’s wrong. It doesn’t matter whether Joe B. would “approve.” This is recruiting. Doesn’t seem exploitative, either; it’s a direct appeal to Joe, not to you or me or to David.
She just came out opposing it, yes. Haven’t had a chance to read her statement yet.
Im not sure how a public advertisement can be considered not to be intended towards the public.
I haven’t watched the commercial and so can’t comment on whether it is exploitative, but by virtue of being a commercial, it is surely also aimed at the voters.
I don’t consider Axelrod, or anyone else who pals around with Rahm, to be a trustworthy source on what is tasteful - or on anything, for that matter.
Any political ad playing purely on sentiment is absolutely out of order. It also makes it seem as if he has no defensible record (of course he does). Big mistake.
Most importantly, he stated that he can’t believe Joe would approve…and I think he’s right.
Next up: fake PACs making egregiously offensive advertisements for candidates they pretend to support but are actually trying to damage. We’ll have the “Support Hillary PAC” running ads designed to offend people about Benghazi and the “Trump for President” pack doing advertisements that double-down on the “all Mexicans are rapists” nonsense. It will all be nicely caged to look as if it’s intended to support the candidate, but you know, they’ll do something like include the footage of “what does it matter at this point” or whatever. Think I’m wrong? Think again. After all, there are myriad advantages to being able to keep your donors secret.
I don’t know that it’s “tasteless” and “exploitative”, but I am left wondering why I should vote for him based on that ad. Or why the tragedy he’s experienced is a reason for him to run. I just don’t get the ad. shrugs
He is by far one of the most brilliant political campaign experts.
do candidates legally have contact with super pacs? can they see an ad and say cut the crap?
I remember in 2012 there were some ratfucking websites like you describe, put out by the opposition.
Agree.
But he’s not a candidate yet.
It’s said Jeb Bush played this same game before he declared – working with the Jeb PAC until his declaration.
are you equating joe biden with jebro?
Strictly speaking, the candidate is not supposed to coordinate with a PAC. But even if Joe had no idea his dead family members would be used in this manner, he needs to get word to them to take the ad down because it’s tasteless.
No, I am not.
Candidates are not allowed to coordinate with PACs.
Biden is not a candidate.
Jeb, however, was suspected of skirting campaign laws by coordinating with the pro-Jeb PAC for months before he declared.
Voters don’t like to feel that they are being manipulated to support someone. It would have been better if they put up an ad with VP Biden saying he supports something that democrats are big supporters of. Now that would get someone to support you. Playing the sympathy card is only going to work so long. I have a feeling this ad will backfire with democrats.
