âThe main reason that Iâm doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and their teenage years working and sweating while we were all home in the air conditioning,â Jones said.
Well, arenât we all lucky they chose to serve the national religion of football instead of mundane summer jobs.
Robinson and Jones were arrested in the early morning of May 17 for the misdemeanor charge of carrying a weapon in the presence of narcotics. Robinson also was charged with felony possession of stolen firearms.
I can understand taking into consideration their youth, their prior history, etc., but their athletic abilities should NOT come into play. As a matter of fact, this is probably the worst thing you can do for those young men. What sort of lesson is this teaching them and the many other youths who idolize these up-and-coming sports figures? Heck, if we all were so fortunate â NOT!
AFFLUENZA ( plus a couple of thick brown envelopes ) . /s
In possession of a firearm, yet nothing. Even when breaking the law with a gun, we donât attempt to do it. Itâs clear a gun is as fundamental a right as breathing.
The DA get his seating location for his football tickets improved? To the 50 yard line? Or a luxury box?
âin making this difficult decision I sought the advice of Judge Aaron Persky in order to make sure I was on solid legal groundâ
I"m not sure which is more appalling - that a DA would base his prosecutorial decisions on whether or not the defendants were football stars, or that a DA would be stupid enough to say that out loud.
If football is your god, this makes sense. Alabama is probably the most idolatrous state in the nation.
âŚtheir victims livesâŚoh wellâŚ
A search of the car then turned up marijuana and a handgun that had been reported stolen in Baldwin County, Alabama.
So, not prosecuting on drug, weapons and robbery charges then. Hear that, AL football players? Do what you want cuz the authorities donât give a crap what you do as long as youâre spikinâ that ball.
Texas is probably up there too.
When I lived in Dallas, I discovered the best time to go shopping: during a Cowboys home game. Stores were deserted.
Even a stolen gun.
I suppose any time a prosecutor in Ouachita Parish, LA uses their limitless discretion to NOT ruin the lives of two 19 year old black kids, over weed no less, I should just feel grateful. No doubt he shows such lenience to other defendants too.
Neither of them were charged with robbery, they were charged with possession of a stolen gun. Telling the cops that your gun was stolen so you can sell it without filling out a bunch of forms is one of our most cherished 2nd Amendment rights.
Well, youâve always been ahead of the curve, always have and always will be. Whatâs it like?
I donât want them to avoid prosecution because they play football but I also donât want them prosecuted. If the DA extended such courtesy to other defendants in similar situations, Iâd be all for this.
If I may parse: itâs not just their athletic abilities - itâs Football! Just imagine if they were on the fencing team. Theyâd probably be still trying to make bail.
Iâm totally with you on pot, Mr. DA. Nobodyâs life should be ruined over harmless recreation.
But stolen guns?
Obviously, not worth ruining their lives over them, but⌠youâre okay if I steal your gun, huh? Isnât that putting Manâs Law above Godâs Law?
And probably every Friday night during football season.
