Discussion for article #247682
âA strike against Belgium is a strike against the US.
I just wanted to be the first to use this attack for political gain and denounce terrorism, which our President has refused to do.â
For over seven years, the carnage in our streets has continued unabated. The terrorists have killed over 70,000 in Americaâ70,000âand yet where is your outrage, Senator? Where are the bills to curb this terrorism? Where are the speeches vowing to protect America from this face of evil? Where are your demands for action against these heinous acts of terror in our streets?
Where?
Or, Senator, is it agreeable to you when the terrorist are Americans inflicting their brutality upon other Americans?
(Statistics of homicides at roughly 10,000 per year from guns.)
Is there anyone in public life in this country more repulsive that Ted Cruz? He canât wait to politicize this terrible event by turning it into an opportunity to criticize Obama and to make a pitch for himself to be elected President.
What makes this even worse is that Cruz knows full well the reasoning behind Obamaâs unwillingness to describe the âenemyâ as radical Islam. Itâs not because he doesnât recognize the danger of radical Islamists; itâs because he doesnât want the U.S. to be seen as making Islam the enemy, out of concern for feeding the propaganda machine of the terrorist groups. Cruz is a very smart guy, he knows exactly why Obama has adopted this approach. And itâs not that Cruz rejects the logic of it, itâs simply that he cynically twists it in order to make the President appear weak or ignorant. As I said, repulsive.
Cruz has a point. A more mature approach to identifying our problems might go a long way in better dealing with them.
Itâs funny how all of a sudden Europe is âusâ when itâs a good soundbite, they arenât âusâ when theyâre being cheese eating surrender monkeys who didnât want to support the destabilization of the Middle East via the Iraq War,
Cruz and his ilk suck.
Good. Now instead of stirring stuff up, define âRadical Islamâ for is. Is it a country we can attack? Or is it anyone who is Muslim.
And while youâre at it Teddy, go explain to your Texas bubbas that Sikhs aint Muslims. Of course, if all you are interested in is stirring up racist hate, that might be counterproductive to your campaign.
What strategy is Cruz suggesting heâd employ to prevent events such as this Brussels attack? Iâve heard over many years various politicians, Presidents and security officials say if a determined person with no regard for their personal safety or survival wanted to kill the President they could do it. And Presidential security far exceeds that provided to civilians in public venues. We canât blanket the world with metal detectors, bomb sniffing dogs and devices and a thousand other methods to stop terrorism. The expense, time and effort would seize the gears of commerce and transportation and travel to the point nothing happened except after onerous, byzantine check points were passed through.
At some point I think we just have to accept terrorism as a cost of doing business. We do it with the 2nd Amendment. Americans shrug their collective shoulder at thousands dying monthly via gun violence. 100 people a month could die from terrorism in this country and the toll would still be dwarfed by handgun deaths inflicted by friends, relatives and common criminals. Maybe not freaking out would be the best way to combat the terrorists. Our fear and panic is their oxygen. Starve them of breathing it in.
How about this grease monkey, Mark Halperin? I wonder if they have the same parents?
Who is radical? Look in the mirror, Ted Cruz.
Very short family tree here:
this reality
The carpetbomberâs war against nounsâŚ
Another thought. So much of what we read about dealing with terrorism makes note of high ranking terrorists getting caught and/or killed. There was the famous âDeck of Cardsâ in the Bush years. Our obsession with finding Bin Laden. Combating terrorism is framed in a fashion leading people to believe thereâs a finite number of bad guys to track down and kill. As if one day a President will announce âYay, we did it!! Theyâre all dead! We won!!â News for the clueless: There are more people being born into the conditions that breed terrorism, every day. You can no more end terrorism than you can cut the grass or do laundry for the last time. A week later thereâs more grass grown and more clothing soiled. You do it until you die.
âRadical Islam is at war with us. For over seven years we have had a president who refuses to acknowledge this reality,â he continued in the statement.
Oh geez, so now youâre wanting to get all technical about this?
âRadical Islam Is At War With Usâ
Broken record⌠when are these asses going to come up with new bumper stickersâŚ
Actually Rafael means this guy. See: neocon logic warp
Iâll tell you who needâs to be carpet bombed, the so-called christian right!
The christian right has never christian nor have they ever, ever been right! That also goes for the so-called moral majority!
Iâd start with the screecherâs outside abortion clinicâs, then hit the mega grifterâs churchâs/homes! The next day Iâd wipe out anyone who has a bible on their dash or in the back windows of their cars! Then Iâd go after anyone in public life who wears a crucifix as a major piece of jewelry!
Then Iâd paint a bulls-eye on any talking-head on cable or the airways so a drone could surgically obliterate them !
Iâd save the best for the third day for Cruz and his ilk, if he and his flufferâs was anywhere to be found!
So the best way to fight the heartbreak of violence is with overwhelming violence? No thanks.
