Yes. Go back to the letter of the law in the tax code. I believe the President can do that by Executive Order, since the current situation dates to an IRS (i.e. Executive Branch) interpretation.
Also, are contributions to these âcharitiesâ tax deductible? Are we subsidizing the Koch brotherâs political activities? I donât understand why the Dems donât point out that these are political groups claiming they are charities - and decry the practice regardless of what any of these groupâs political leanings may be.
Especially since the real prize is donor anonymity. This is a sleazy, secretive way to conduct politics. Make them all convert to 527s and play by the same rules. (A fairness strategy that extends of things like the carried interest rule, among other distortions that favor the wealthy over the wage-and-salary maker.)
