Discussion: Crowley Grills Susan Rice On Prisoner Swap: 'Did The US Negotiate With Terrorists?' (VIDEO)

Crowley: C’mon Susan, I’ve got a provocative sound bite I want to pin on you so my interview gets lots of clicks. Just say it, will ya?

Yes… when Ronald Reagan traded weapons of war to the Ayatollah in exchange for hostages, we did negotiate with terrorists.

The Taliban did not attack America, all they did was “harbor” Osama bin Laden (if living in a cave can be considered harboring). The even offered to give him up if the US provided proof that he did the deed. The US refused the offer and watched (allowed?) bin Laden escape into Pakistan.

Candy, the precedent was set long ago… you might mention that.

No. For it to not show up on either MRI or CT scans it cannot have any metal, and it has to have a density similar to the soft tissue it is adjacent to. It needs to have a reasonable battery supply as well, which puts a lower limit on its size. All while somehow transmitting a signal, through the skin powerful enough to reach a satellite.

Only a handful of places in the human body that you physically could put something where removal could kill them. But all of them share the same possibility of killing them when you put the tracker in. And they are all deep in the body, which makes the transmission problem harder.

This shit is just so predictable. What a monumental waste of time.

Who’s is Candy Crowley again? Something you see on a supermarket checkout counter next to the KitKat and Snickers bars? These so-called journalists seem to have an opinion from the extreme right wing Republican echo chamber every time President Obama does anything positive. How much time has CNN spent covering Bowe Bergdahl? Was it comparable to the time they spent reporting on garbage and debris in the Indian Ocean. Who is paying for the CNN reporting on the story – Rinse Anus and the Republican National Committee? How many reporters does CNN have in Afghanistan?

Excellent post.

Those two stories says it all. First link says it was something the President signed into law himself to notify Congress 30 days in advance, which BTW had an attached signing statement. That’s not something you’ll hear many in the press mention. The reichwing media makes it seem like 1) the law always existed, long before this President 2) they leave out that the President had already deemed it unconstitutional as an acting Commander-in-Chief.

The second link you provide points to this POW release in the works for 4 years!!! 4 YEARS!!! You’d think these negotiations came about on the fly from the sounds of it. Nothing could be further from the truth the way its characterized in many of the short press releases on this topic.

Thank you for this post. This is a big get. The Dems should be shouting this from the roof tops. Proof that the Republicans don’t give a flying monkey butt about our troops and only fly them as political window dressing.

“…did the U.S. negotiate with terrorists…”

According to conservatives, we’re at war. Remember? The Commander-In-Chief can pretty much do what he wants, unless we’re planning to dig up Harry Truman and hang him for negotiating with the Japanese to end World War II.

The real question is, since corporations are now people, should CNN be tried for war crimes for its complicity in the immoral Iraq War?

heh…called this hours ago… so utterly predictable that the magpies would eagerly suck up the gop talking points… by the end of the week, people will be calling for bergdahl to be returned to afghanistan and the released prisoners returned to gitmo. there are already tons of comments calling for his execution for desertion.

More than lately; he basically announced that that’s what we’d be doing in his May 2013 speech at the National Defense University. (You know, the major address that everyone forgot the instant he delivered it, in which he also announced his intention to rein in and strengthen oversight on the surveillance state, weeks before Edward Snowden surfaced – oh, sorry, OT pet peeve…)

It’s about the same time when getting affordable healthcare for people is considered “unprecedented socialism” or whatever.

More than “Obama does everything wrong”, they insinuate he does it illegally.

This is the Republican Party’s 2014 election strategy. Expect every news story involving the President even remotely to include this angle.

President Obama tries to negotiate with Congress…

Same difference.

Better results. Fewer Turrists in Guantanamo. One live American.

So, is it no longer chic to defend the Reagan model of giving terrorists what they want?

Candy is asking the tough questions! Especially now that everyone is labeled a “terrorist,” I have to wonder who we’re allowed to negotiate with?

Between her and Karen Tumulty’s stenography in the Washington Post this morning, the Republicans should’ve been able to take a day off this Sunday morning. The media was doing their job for them.[quote=“system11111, post:1, topic:4752, full:true”]

And by the way, I still cannot stand this new comments section. TPM used to have the best comments - easy to read and manageable and thoughtful. Now they’re just thoughtful. On Safari, the comments section is virtually unusable. The post comment button, or whatever it is (since I can’t see it) is invisible.

Where was Candy or the media outrage when St. Ronald traded missiles for hostages?

If Obama had shut Guantanamo down like he promised, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Thank you for linking to these articles.

If this is the incident the Republicans think will allow them to initiate impeachment proceedings (lets see how it plays out over the next week or so), they’re on a fool’s errand. Obama has them dead-to-rights on this one.
