Someone on here made the comment the other day that right wingers would criticize Obama for “negotiating with terrorists”. Pretty much nailed that one, sad and predictable. Truly unbelievable!
Its absolutely nauseating watching these idiot news pundits being led around by the nose by the GOP. By the way, I’m still waiting to hear from veterans organizations like the D.A.V., American Legion and V.F.W. to see if they are going to support the president on this issue.
Haven’t we been negotiating with the Taliban for several years, trying to help Afghanistan get a government structure that reconciles and mainstreams them? Where were GOP objections to this?
The media S T I N K S. To think that a wonderful event like Bergdahl’s release is played as yet one more “Obama does everything wrong” story is getting ridiculous.
Reminds me of when the President ordered and successfully went after OBL, who was hunted down and killed. The pinnacle of all “gets” when it came to the supposed “war on terror” the same rethugs had been yammering about. They tried desperately to turn a wholly positive objective into just one more politicized bullshit complaint, saying the President wasn’t responsible for the “get”, and that it was actually the Bushies that made the entire situation possible. Its laughable today, but that’s what they were arguing. Cheney got on TV to argue if it hadn’t been for them, Obama never would have gotten OBL.
Now they want to turn another wholly positive objective into another politicized argument…that the President got the last remaining captive soldier in Afghanistan as an unlawful act. The amount of bullshit these assholes dump into the public domain is mind-boggling…and the way the media eats it up is despicable.
Agreed. She dared to correct Mitt Romney in order to establish the facts of the situation and has never been the same since. Do you think she will ever make it up to the Republicans or (as they say) “die trying?”
Since when is a ‘prisoner of war’ exchange regarded to be an unprecedented act of treasonous tyranny?
Oh yeah, since Obama became POTUS.
We’ve been swapping prisoners with our adversaries since the revolutionary War. If our “sacred” Founding Fathers were OK with it and we’ve always done it, why are the Repugnicans punking Obama for it?
Oh… Never mind. I just answered my own question.
Crowley should probably ask the prisoner or his parents about the negotiation.
Since he wasn’t able to close Gitmo by Executive Order maybe he’s trying a different tactic. The adminisration has been talking about ending the War on Terror lately.
Rethuglicants often refer to Democrats as Terrorists - therefore they are forbidden by law to “negotiate” (meet, be seen with, talk with, create/edit bills together, brainstorm together, …) with any Democrat, cause they’re terrorists.
That explains a lot.
Media Matters has made a number of observations of Candy Crowley’s “reporting” over the years. Here’s an example from 2008: her “latte liberals” moment.
CNN’s Candy Crowley said that the “affluent, well-educated white voters”
who were part of Sen. Barack “Obama’s voting bloc” were the “so-called
latte liberals.” This statement recalls her reported 2004 suggestion
that green tea is unfamiliar to “most of America” after John Kerry
requested it in Iowa.
On Democratic prospects in 2006 where she regurgitates Republican Talking Points:
Despite asserting, without evidence, that Democrats have been on the
“losing side of the values debate, the defense debate and … the guns
debate,” Crowley did not offer any information on the parties’
respective standing with the American public on these issues. In fact,
multiple public opinion polls indicate that the majority of the public
currently prefers Democrats to handle the issues of “moral values,” the
“war on terror,” and Iraq.
Candy Crowley, vacuous or venal? I report, you decide.
There is a rumor going around certain DC circles that the five former detainees were long ago implanted with a tracking device not detectable by MRI or CT scans and in a part of the body that makes it all but impossible to remove without killing the person. Plausible?
At least President Obama didn’t stage a Jessica Lynch rescue for the cameras like W. did for propaganda purposes. Or how about the friendly-fire situation in Afghanistan against Pat Tillman that was covered up by the leaders in the military and who-ever was clued into the “real briefings”, again for propaganda purposes.
P-L-E-A-S-E…spare me the fucking outrage on this…this, the longest war in US history. This is once again about faux outrage, raising money off of that outrage, and the upcoming elections…nothing more.
Here’s a chart:
Once again, the knee-jerk nihilist party charges boldly onto the field, then, led by Darrell Issa, and bored silly by repetition, find a tree under which to take a nap.
It’s all campaign all the time for them. Republicans on the whole couldn’t give ten flying stacks of shit about any positive outcome regarding anything unless they can find a way to dupe their idiotic base into “OBAMA BAD DEATH PANEL TERRORIST!” - and callously spin it as a negative. If this all happened under a Republican administration, Fox News would be parading Bergdahl around as their shiny new toy for the week.
Not a coincidence that the one thing these asshole rightwing politicians and media hacks are not talking about is the 5 grueling years this young soldier was held in captivity, and the celebration of his release. That’s what I call especially odd…but not surprising in this manufactured political climate, unfortunately.
Fuck, even with McWar…we’re still talking about his captivity as a POW and he still gets a fair amount of sympathy for what he endured…even as everything else he’s done with his political career has turned to shit or borders on bullshit. And McWar is the one now worried about the 5 Gitmo detainees that were traded? And not the man released from captivity after 5 years? That’s empathy for you from the rightwing political class. Can it get more bizarre than that?
"The reason I asked you this ludicrous question is because of our concerns Benghazi
Thanks for the additional information - maybe she is more desperate since that debate, but there has been a pattern here well before that.
What Rice should have said: “Candy, let me ask those who characterize this exchange as ‘negotiating with terrorists’: What would THEY have done differently to meet our sacred obligation to bring back every soldier we can?”
“And furthermore, Candy, baby, in 1979 your Saint Reagan made a deal to sell arms to Iran (through the Israelis) in exchange for release of the hostages. The resulting scandal is known as “Iran-Contra,” because the proceeds of the arms sales were used to support the Nicaraguan anti-Sandinista rebels”.
Yeah, that’s what she should have said to this GOP shill who belongs on Fox.
If it weren’t for the republicans, Sgt. Bergdahl would likely have been released two to three years ago.
“One possible reason the president chose not to notify lawmakers is that last time he attempted to negotiate Sgt. Bergdahl’s release, Republicans both formally and informally blocked all efforts to do so.”
