Discussion: Countrywide Rejections Of Mail-In Ballots Raise Alarm

If my State does this, mine has been rejected. I can’t write with my right hand anymore, so I’ve taught myself to sign with my left.

Fucking rat fucking Republicans.

The new GOP motto… If you can’t win fair and square… CHEAT

Where does the state get a copy of my signature from? Drivers License, tax return? I have very large scrawly writing and if I only have a small space to fill, my signature changes to fit the space. What a crock.

Maybe there should be a contest for the most arbitrary way to obstruct voting. The GOP wins of course, but is it Kemp, or Kobach or one of the others who’ll get the grand prize.
The idea of allowing untrained personnel to decide whether signatures match those on file - and to then deny, without recourse, the right to vote, is a return to the good old days when African Americans were kept from voting by threats, poll taxes, and absurd reading tests. I want to see one of the various lawsuits go to the Supremes with a challenge to reconsider the decision invalidating parts of the Voting Rights Act because preclearance and the like no longer were needed. It probably will lose, but I want to see Roberts bullshit his way through all the evidence of the need for regulation that is now available, and all those lower court decisions finding the different practices unlawful.

Almost certainly from your voter registration form.

@imkmu3: Call your local (usually county) elections office and find out if they are signature matching. If they are, explain the situation and get down there with some ID to provide a new exemplar with your current signature.

Well, that would be a bit tough right now, seeing as I’m house bound.

The real question is, are they rejecting ONLY Democrats?

They need to keep a tally of the partisan aspects of this, just exposing how many rejects are from which party, no names necessary, just numbers, is in order.

That would be very telling.

Kemp and the rest of the vote suppressors in SOS clothing all call Kobach “COACH KOBACH!”

He was weaned on suppression.

Heard’s ballot was tossed out because her signature did not match the one on file at her local election office.

Has got to be one of the most asinine reasons to not accept a vote. Signatures change for any number of reasons, let alone overtime. Mine for example changed overnight due to brain surgery. I have seen changes from benign things like a head cold, or just coming in from shoveling snow on a freezing day, or having the cat jump onto the desk just as I was signing, etc, etc, etc, etc…

Curious, why can’t states send vote-counting helpers IN to people who ARE housebound or handicapped or in a hospital?

Sounds like the kind of democracy we all hope for. Just food for thought.

This “go somewhere and vote” thing is so horse-n’-buggy 18th century.

Well, at least this answers how they want to deal with the possibility of absentee ballot fraud. Stupidly, arbitrarily and capriciously.

Good point… I stand corrected

Does anyone else “sign in” on an iPad? This was something new to me in 2016 and then again during this year’s primaries. My signature won’t match because it has changed over time, my signature when using my finger or stylus doesn’t match anything, and it even depends on the size and width of the ink pen. Oh and do I have my reading glasses on.

I’m sorry to hear that. I wish I could help in some way.

Nobody’s signature on a digital device matches their signature with pen and paper. As simple a change as ballpoint to nib pen results in perceptible changes. Moving to something as slick as glass and a stylus (or worse, a fingertip) wreaks havoc on the feedback you get from the surface, and hence messes up muscle control. I’ve taken to making a mark rather than trying to actually sign the damned things.

I submit that we should go to fingerprints. Then we can dip our fingers in ink, just like Iraq, and have our votes counted.

What makes you think Bitch McConnell, Little Paulie Rayn, and Agolf Twitler want our votes counted?

Mrs Strad and I early voted Monday afternoon, despite the best efforts of the Tom-tom (mis) navigation system in our car to take us to someplace that wasn’t the Hamilton County Board of Elections. (Siri got us to the right place – I didn’t know Tom-tom was a GOP outfit…) There were some Democratic Party candidates and canvassers outside the building, no GOPers. I asked them how turnout was, and they said it was heavy all day. I’m taking heart from that.

I find that the more I’ve had to sign those electronic signature things, the more my signature has degraded. It ends up just being a scrawl. I hardly ever have to sign anything on paper anymore, and when I do, it’s hard for me to get it to look like my old signature.
