Discussion: Countrywide Rejections Of Mail-In Ballots Raise Alarm

My signature doesn’t match itself if I signed twice in one minute, never mind over time. Nothing wrong with my hands, they’re very able and I make my living with them, thank you very much, but my handwriting has always been atrocious and barely resembles itself from one session to the next. My signature long ago devolved to a wavy horizontal line lead by a small hook, or not. The idea that my ballot or any legal document could be rejected on something so arbitrary and so NOT a part of who I am in any meaningful way is abhorrent.

If they signature matched me, I’d be screwed. I changed from a cursive signature to print 25 years ago, but my old signature remains on record. (Though my new one is actually readable!)

My husband votes by absentee ballot. The mail-in ballot for Bexar county Texas had a notice on the last page that extra postage might be required. There was just a regular “box” for a postage stamp on the envelope. I took the envelope to the post-office and asked if one stamp was enough. No! Another 21 cents was required! I asked what would have happened if it didn’t have enough postage, and the clerk said it would be returned. So, anyone mailing their ballot might get it returned, after Nov 6 of course, if it wasn’t mailed with correct postage.

When we have Democrat secretaries of state rejecting Republican mail-in ballots on specious grounds, then maybe the laws will change.

It’s the same old repug lie.

Rejecting mail-in ballots for signature mis-match is clearly the latest repug assertion that there is extensive (Democratic) vote fraud: by rejecting the ballots they’re once again insisting a criminal cast the vote.

We KNOW voting fraud is extremely rare.

In my home state of Oregon, in addition to automatic voter registration, and universal mail in ballots, we now have the ability to track our ballot once submitted. Check it out! We can use easy solutions to stand in the way of the suppressors.

The joke is a LOT of people’s signatures are not an exact match. This plays into the hands of exact match advocates (aka Republicans). They so greatly fear votes counting against them or too many of the wrong people voting, that they have convinced themselves that exact matches and IDs are the way to stop voter fraud. Funny thing is, the people who get caught committing absentee voter fraud are usually REPUBLICANS!

Nothing new about it

The Republican Party Emerges From Decades of Court Supervision

After being bound by a consent decree for 35 years, the Republican National Committee is now free to continue its “ballot security” campaign.

Thirty-five years after it was first imposed, a judge has lifted a consent decree barring the Republican National Committee from pursuing “ballot security” measures.

The timing is suspect. Would be interesting to find out if the judge lifting the decree was recently appointed by Trump and seated by McConnell…

Next trump executive order: All Democrat voters must have their SS number with signature tattoo on left arm as a voting requirement.

Call your local ACLU and ask them what to do

I’m pretty much incapable of repeating my signature. It’s not age or disability, unless terminal sloppiness and lack of coordination are disabilities.

Arizona asked me to reregister to vote with a fresh signature a few years ago. They sent me the form. I did it. Call and request a new voter registration form if you have a new signature. It will help. Also, are all rejected votes because of signature resulting in a voter fraud investigation? They seem to be claiming that they’re not signed by the voter. What else could they mean?
