How long before we start seeing “Not a shithole. TM” showing up in the travel ads for melanin-correct countries?
If these two men do not recall something the president said YESTERDAY, especially something so patently incendiary and odious, about a matter they claim to care deeply about, then I am concerned about THEIR mental fitness to serve in the United States Senate. On the other hand, if they are such cowards that they cannot stand up against overt racism by the President of the United States, then they are clearly unfit for office.

Yup. Shithole just isn’t a dirty word to most of the elected or appointed republicans. Certainly not like the word “assistance,” which would prompt calls for pistols at dawn.

You never just do one thing. Is there no one in the Trump White House that understands this? He himself clearly does not. A simple question: Does using shithole as an adjective to describe countries (rather than as a noun for individuals in the WH itself who might deserve that characterization) have any effect on promoting or reducing the threat of terrorist movements and terrorism? It seems to me that if the countries so characterized are largely inhabited by persons of color it would not be a leap to think that those persons might have religious beliefs different from ours. Or that they might truly believe we were a threat to them.
Just wondering.

Maybe I missed it in the article or jumped past most of the comments…there were no minutes taken at this meeting? How does one go about conducting the business of the WH, U.S. govt and NO ONE takes minutes? So, technically we wouldn’t have to worry about folks having faulty memories, it would all be there in the recorded minutes. Hmmm…got it.

These dudes are seriously parsing. They say, “we do not recall the President saying these comments specifically.” What comments are they referring to when they say “these comments”? Your headline is misleading. They don’t say he did not use the word “shithole”. They do not say “we don’t recall him using that word.” It is more reasonable to understand their statement to mean they do not recall the specific string of words in the sequence reported. And what do they mean “specifically”? Do they mean that they don’t recall Trump saying the specific string of words in the specific order, but they do recall words to the same effect? Seems likely.
It means they are willing to further debase themselves. And they get extra points for claiming that it is unfortunate that others came forward with these startling and disqualifying remarks.

Someone should ask them, specifically, if they recall NOT the shithole line but rather the comments before and after it, namely, Trump’s complaint about attracting so many African, Haitian, and Salvadoran immigrants and so few Norwegians.
“Shithole” is getting all the attention, but Trump’s racism surrounded it.
Trump’s racism, not profanity, is the issue.
