They might not remember the original comment, but based on Perdue’s twitter feed, they aren’t likely to forget the response.
Ironically, Cotton and Perdue’s merit-based system would almost assuredly mean far more immigrants from the continent Trump cited as a shithole. Forty-three percent of Nigerian-Americans have college degrees, compared to thirty-three percent of native born Americans.
But perhaps “Norway” will qualify as a skill in the final bill.

With a few horrified or disillusioned exceptions, the entire Republican apparatus—Congressional and state legislators, governors, the massive political commentariat (Sinclair/Fox/Breitbart/Drudge/National Review/Daily Caller, etc., etc., etc.)— appears to be rallying around the idiot king and his extraordinarily debased and cruel and overt racism.
Which should come as a surprise to precisely nobody. The only surprise is that a handful of Republicans are openly expressing revulsion and horror. All the others are engaged in ferocious acts of defense, including quite a bit of truly remarkable revisionism.
One suspects increasingly that it was the president’s team that leaked this ugly utterance in the first place, the Stephen Miller crowd convinced that—as white support for the old fool begins to weaken, and the Republican attack on progressive taxation, strong public schools, and the safety net begins to hurt white folks, and the coal jobs and industrial jobs fade away, and the whole Republican Big Lie machine begins to wobble and overheat—it’s how to get those white voters revved up again between now and November.
Get their minds off their ruined communities and their vanishing jobs and their lost benefits: get their minds back on the menace of the Black Horde, all those dangerous doctors and professors and engineers from what Republicans think of as “the country of Africa,” pouring over our borders willy-nilly and taking up spots that would otherwise have gone to some nice Norwegians.
