Ayers is a smart, well connected young man…not an old stupid panderer.
Working as Pence’s COS, Ayers probably knows more than most people how much legal jeopardy Individual-1 is in, along with other members of the administration. Getting out of Dodge at this juncture had to have been a no-brainer.
He may also know that Pence’s time in the barrel is coming.
Trumps administration is a lava flow. Mr. Ayers is wise to move out of its path.

Well John, maybe some guys value their families over taking a job that will ruin their future employment possibilities. Maybe Ayres didn’t want to get mixed up in crime. Did’ja even consider that? Why join a seriously corrupt administration and get shit all over yourself in he process?
