Discussion: Conservative Justices Seem Inclined To Keep Citizenship Question On Census

This will be one of the first of many fascistic decisions we’ll see from this court.
A compliant court system is one aspect of incipient fascism.
As for the GOP, they either think they can control Trump or want to keep him as their useful idiot.
He has certainly proved to be the latter.

The idea of a census is an inventory not a question of citizenship, as the slave populations in the pre-civil war south could testify too. From the Domesday book to now, the idea behind a census is to count how many people, goats, cows chickens etc are in an area, for the calculations of monies owed to the crown i.e. government. Obviously it has changed and is now it is also for representation, however if you pay any taxes you should be counted, regardless of citizenship.

“This is a solution in search of a problem,” Justice Sonia Sotomayor told Francisco…

To the GOP, any voter with melanin is “a problem”.

The composition of this supreme court shouldn’t even exist. I’m all for Pete Buttigieg’s idea of adding additional seats to the court to fix this bullshit.

If it appears on my census questionnaire, my household here in blue Oregon will suddenly have a few additional undocumented residents suddenly living here for census counting purposes.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh asked first about the Justice Department’s stated rationale that the data would enhance voting right enforcement and later about the United Nations’ guidance that countries survey citizenship. Kavanaugh also parroted the administration’s talking point about the citizenship question having always been asked “in one form or another” — a talking point the liberal justices at this point had already demolished.

He’s such a little dirtbag and apparently not too good at the Supreme Justicing gig.

The right wing on the supreme court couldn’t care less about the law, except as a bludgeon. Ultimately they will destroy the institution.

“The confusion and deception surrounding the lead-up to Ross announcement that he was adding the question was of little concern to the conservative justices Tuesday.”

Well no kidding. Kavanaugh vowed revenge and he’s going to get it.

Good luck with that. Even if we win the presidency in 2020, the chances of winning control of the senate are slim to none for the foreseeable future.

“You can’t scare me with the Supreme Court. I’m voting for Jill Stein, because a protest vote is never wasted! Besides, I’m a comfortable white person. None of this affects me, anyway.”

Emails, butt-hurt Bernie Bros, and purity tests.

Goddammit.

And fuck Mitch McConnell, too … again.

In other news, the sky is blue.

Like there was any possible outcome of this than a 5-4 decision in favor of Trump.

The Supremes are just a wing of the Republican Party.

The conservative SC judges should consider a past conservative solution, the one used for counting slaves in the census. Count the undocumented as 3/5 of a person, unless, that is, most undocumented people live in blue states. Then don’t count them at all but refer them to ICE for deportation. That is the kind of sick mindset we’ve come to expect from Republicans.

No shit?

Nice headline. This is an example of a “credulous media”, for those who were curious.

I live in a red state in a very red district so I don’t plan to fill it in.
