Here’s a thought. How about if Obama appeals to the public directly to organize a coalition to help the situation. How is it different from when Americans come together to help each other in times of natural disaster or economic crisis?
No one should be treated any different than the kids from Mx or Canada, so do it.
Please not another boehner fold. Will Boehner cry when he kneels before Obama and eventually swallows the whole thing while the world watches, as per the usual?
Well I’m sure that the White House is shaking all over with these latest ultimatum from the tan man. What an ass. The President does not make the laws, that is job of the Boehner’s of our wonderful Congress.
Translated Boehner: “We are going to punish innocent children fleeing violence and chaos unless you acquiesce to our nativist base and militarize the border”.
The Texas State Governor, § Rick Error has ordered their states National Guard, to the border to face down these children while threatening them if they come across the border. What’s next? Shooting a child? Yeah that’s just what the American people need, to be smeared with this refugee crisis to the point that the world will place sanctions on the U.S. Even Iran takes refugees, rather than facing them down from a border, they help them to become citizens of that sovereign state.
When the first child dies from being shot, the hue and cry will become a resounding chorus of the world’s states condemning the U.S. I am not using comedy when this kind of incident occurs, it is beyond comedic intervention.
What on Earth does the Red states have to offer besides NASCAR, barbecue, and questionable inter-family relations?
They are shaking at the WH: That’s what you do when you’re laughing uncontrollably.
Not this term, they don’t – or the last term, come to that…
Can the Republicans cook up semi-plausible excuses? Yes they can.
Does that cause any positive legislation that does anyone any good. No it doesn’t.
Are Republicans good in a crisis or are they the crisis? No and yes.
Why, besides the typical teabagging that is, do they have to conflate the two issues?
Do the supplemental that needs immediate attention then do changes to immigration laws that could take years but would have the benefit of the supplemental improving things possibly by then
That’s how a contractor would do it and it would work, lawmakers don’t seem to get what it is that they are supposed to be doing.
Maybe we need a Jonathan Swift and an updated A Modest Proposal.
But even in his day, there were people who did not recognize satire.
It might be worse today.
If Obama had the guts of a Lyndon Johnson, he’d announce the closing of military bases in red states, starting with Ohio. Then call up Boehner on the phone and ask him to clarify his remarks.
Buck Foehner and the Obstructionist Do-Nothings.
Oooo! A threat to not provide money to do what he himself wants! That has to be the stupidest thing this fool has done yet.
How about this? Since we divert untold tax dollars to religious institutions ostensibly because they won’t use it to proselytize but for humanitarian ends, we should require those institutions to handle it as a condition of continuing to receive those Constitutionally-violative funds.
In other words, we’ve already paid for their care – now it’s only a matter of forcing the bigots to actually do it.
A Bonermatum
I like it. Problem is - Do-Nothing-Congress. Can’t re-direct funds, can’t fund enforcement.
Until the knucklehead Americans who voted these Yahoos into office get the courage to kick them out, Congress is nothing more than a blockage.
If Boehner wants POTUS to make the law, doesn’t that mean HE is the one “leading from behind”??? I thought R’s hated that? I thought R’s didn’t want POTUS to act like a tyrannical dictator? How can POTUS rally strong public support when he’s a mom-jeans-wearing sissy who likes golfing more than leading? I haven’t been this confused since the second half of Calc II.
As Congress dithers on border crisis legislation, the lives and prospects of tens of thousands of children fleeing violence and poverty
in Central America hang in the balance.
As Congress “dithers”. Congress isn’t dithering; the Repubs are blocking. I can’t wait to see how Boehner’s going to pay for the paltry $1.5B his caucus says it will pay for their “reforms”. An extra tax on food stamps? Further cuts to Meals on Wheels? And the Senate Repubs are going to filibuster anything, right? This isn’t dithering, it’s intentional malfeasance.
