Mr Speaker your bluff may be called, and as the thread says"then you folks will go home and be asked why,no action"IMHO.

The least effective speaker in history is giving ultimatums? Now that’s funny.

Spot on, but repugs continue to play politics.

Now didn’t the immigration law the Country is working under not pass Congress virtually unanimously in 2008? And when Bush signed it to much acclaim didn’t all the Repubs who are demanding it be changed now not support it then? What is so different now that the children it was designed to protect are arriving here from the very countries that this government destabilized over the past century? Can’t the media make more of an issue over how recently this law was created by the Congress, most of whom are still in office and now calling for drastic changes? Good god can’t Dems make more of an issue over how recently it was passed at least?

Oh I totally agree Steve. On the comments at our local AlaskaDispatchNews(formerly Anchorage Daily News) the ruthless, virulent rhetoric spewed by the haters topped anything I’ve yet seen. Downright evil and beyond creepy how the people commenting are so afraid and hateful of children. Next week those same spewers of violent diatribes against the desperate children from Latin American will be once again loving the fetuses when the scandal du jour switches back to an abortion related issue. It’s really hard to fathom how right wing media keeps it’s evil hold on so many millions of Americans.

If Boner cancels the upcoming month-long paid vacation planned to begin on August 1 so the House can work through these crises, we’ll know he’s serious. Until that happens, think smoke up the teabaggers asses. But the idea of this guy elected by a relative small number of Ohioans issuing an ultimatum to the president who was elected by million of Americans is the ultimate chutzpah move.

Wow TPM, nice shot of how well that rug glue adheres in a stiff breeze, looks like jet (prop) wash from the GOP’s hot air talking points.

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again. Republican inaction will give the President the green light to do his executive order on immigration, just before the next election. Republican screaming and hate speech will be off the hook, painting a very ugly face on Republicans as voters go to the voting booth. They can’t stop themselves . The teasquats will be foaming at the mouth.

ā€œIf we are not allowed to beat these kids before sending them home, then there’s no longer an America I can believe in!ā€ screamed the Speaker, quietly amused in the knowledge that a useless Congress would be unlikely to do much of anything in 8 days.

Again?

These lazy Republicans are running the most inept Congress in history!

Border control does not work. We just spent billions of dollars on 700 miles of new wall that 50,000 children just walked around. It’s a bigger waste of money then the war on drugs.

Thank you for posting this.

We often become inured to this type of rhetoric, particularly those of us who are political junkies and are inundated with mindless, pig-ignorant hyperbolic rhetoric. But it is vitally important to be vigilant against the type of eliminationist rhetoric which you rightly take to task in ā€œdiscussionsā€ on this topic.

I was watching a very interesting documentary on Nazi art theft before and during World War II called The Rape of Europa and it prompted me to go back and re-watch the outstanding BBC/PBS documentary series Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State and some of the discussions afterwards (in the PBS airing of the series) with Linda Ellerbee discusses some of the things your comment touches on. How eliminationist rhetoric and outlook can lead to genocide.

Save your ultimatums for your House Republican caucus, John!

Congress doesn’t deserve an August recess. Long, grueling legislative sessions do not apply to congressional GOPers. They spend more time on fund raising and weekly first-class commutes to and from home than reconciling legislating.

They should deduct a month’s salary from their six-figure gigs.

The American people should boner an ultimatum, let’s vote him OUT along with the other despicable republicans!

It doesn’t matter whether you disavow fiat currency. We’re still on the hook for tab, only more so when corporations get a pass.

It’s about time Boehner started issuing ultimatums. After all, his party won a landslide in the last presidential election.

it’s time Boner gave an ultimatum to his members - do the job and stop holding the American people hostage!

Perhaps Boehner misunderstood when he heard someone refer to President Obama as a black male.
