Discussion: Comeuppance: Attacking Obamacare Backfires And GOP Has No Alternative

Discussion for article #222568

This article is great and all, but I’m not sure Fox News and the GOP base, the folks for whom this makes a difference, know the war is over. Facts don’t really get in their way

Frankly, the only ‘repeal and replace’ movement is going to come from Democrats who want single payer. Now that Obamacare is the baseline, the only way things are going to shift is leftwards.

It isn’t just on healthcare. Can anyone think of a single positive proposal to come out of the Republican party on anything? They have no plan for immigration, no real alternative foreign policy (simply criticizing what Obama does does not a policy make), no vision for how to repair the broken infrastructure, not even one to get the private sector involved. The one area where they actually proposed something was Camp’s tax reform plan (whether you like it or not, it is at least a proposal) and the leadership has done zip and he is retiring.

Never has an opposition had so little to offer.

Yeah, of course they don’t really give a tinker’s damn about health care anyway. They merely want to (1) damage the unbearably black President, and (2) get their own repugnant jerks elected.

Repealing this train wreck is literally the one thing that we republicans will accomplish in the very near future. Oh my… a funny thing happened on the way to repeal, the train wreck is literally on track.

The words of FDR seem as appropriate today when it comes to Obamacare as they did when Republicans of the day opposed Social Security:

Let me warn you and let me warn the Nation against the smooth evasion which says, “Of course we believe all these things; we believe in social security; we believe in work for the unemployed; we believe in saving homes. Cross our hearts and hope to die, we believe in all these things; but we do not like the way the present Administration is doing them. Just turn them over to us. We will do all of them- we will do more of them we will do them better; and, most important of all, the doing of them will not cost anybody anything.”

What Next? Really TPM?

Benghazi Baby!!!

The GOP will be promoting this non-stop, including:

New Cereals at the Supermarket: Benghazi Bran!
New Toys for Happy Meals: Benghazi Baby Dolls!
A New Musical on Broadway: Benghazi Boys!

The best arguments to get to single payer are actually conservative ones.

  1. It takes health insurance off the books of business thus making them more competitive globally.
  2. It dramatically drives down the cost of healthcare through strong oversight of costs.
  3. And because of 2 we will no longer be looking at a future where healthcare could eat up 25% of our GDP, which would be economically unsustainable.

Forget about Benghazi Bran. The LAST thing they want to do is get Benghazi out of their system!

I know you are being funny, but what is the Republicans’ alternative plan to prevent embassy attacks in the future?

A wish and a prayer, because it certainly isn’t added security they have cut that budget by millions four times in a row over the past four years.

Why, there’s simultaneous hearings on Benghazi and the AZ VA. That ought to take them through to the elections!

How about they work with the democrats to fix the problems in the ACA? Then those individuals can brag in their campaign ads they “fixed Obamacare.”
