Actually, the fact they have a sign in the window declaring that they will charge non-whites more for their food than what they charge whites is perfectly good grounds for a case of discrimination. No need to go into the restaurant to establish cause.
Damn. Well, fuck me. I didnāt even know May was Jewish American Heritage Month. And here Iāve been wasting all of these first 8 days this month on my gardening when I couldāve been cashing in my chits for free tickets to some Hollywood Blockbuster. You know, The Hollywood loves us Jewish Americansā¦oh, and those free toasters at my local bank causeā¦yeah, weāre in on that too.
Point well made CandaceTX. Nobody knows about those other months including me, until you made me aware of all I been missing.
The GOPs manufactured war on white christians reaches popular culture.
Excellent point ā and thank you!!
JUNE 11th - in 1963 the day George Wallace stood on the steps and physically blocked black kids from attending the University of Alabama.
eyeroll
yes, of course⦠āsomeā white people.
You get free toasters, too?? So, do we when we come out of the closet!! Gosh, imagine that. BTW, if we have an official club card, we even get a free kitchen appliance when get a friend to come out. Life is so grand. (Got my card years ago when I lived in San Francisco).
Finally, white people get a break in life!
Mr. Antillonās argument reminds me of something my mother said to me when I was a child. I asked her since there was a Motherās Day and a Fatherās Day, why wasnāt there a Kidās Day? She told me in no uncertain terms that every other day of the year was Kidās Day.
You want White History, read some.
I did notice the listing by CandaceTX included nationalities and one religion. Not sure I understood the original flow chart thinking she had by including us Jews. There are also months for all kinds of commemorative thingsā¦including even ice cream! Her point is well taken, but I think the only ones complaining are the ones that are racist assholes to begin with, that generally pit whites against blacks on all manner of issues as well.
I suppose at some point we can all look forward to someone suggesting a commemoration of Christian American Heritage Month in Congress (if it hasnāt already happened). Wonāt that be a hoot.
Sadly, it reminds me of what I saw last night on Wilmoreās show when the woman on the panel said erroneously that Jews got reparations following WW2 (because they were talking about reparations in general) and the rest of the people at the table just let that kind of ignorance slide without comment. Didnāt quite fit in with the overall discussion they were having I thoughtā¦and as a Jew with some family that survived the Holocaust and some that did not, I found that statement particularly offensive. Just a sidenote.
But they will make more in donations from bigots than they ever made as a restaurant.
Yāknow, I think you may be correct.
So life really is like an (The) Onion!
I had no idea about the ice cream - yum! My favorites are Vanilla Bean and any good Dark Chocolate. Chocolate-Chip Mint in a vanilla bean base is a very close runner-up.
I wouldnāt be against a Christian American Heritage designation so long as there are no hang-ups if and when others (say Muslim Americans) come asking for theirs.
Regarding the woman who stated that āJews got reparations,ā maybe she was thinking of some of the things Germany has done for their citizens ā but she is woefully ignorant by inferring all Jews got anything others than a life-fuck. Personally, I am in awe how well the survivors had literally pulled themselves up by their collective bootstraps ā it is a life lesson for the rest of us.
Is there a kid alive who has not asked that same question and gotten exactly that very response from Mom?
Iām guessing that Mother and Father Days are an American oddity, so maybe itās not a worldwide phenomenon, but stillā¦
Thanks for the smile - that brought back fond memories!
nice trolling, but what the fuck is their point? Nobody gives black people a discount during Black History Month. They know this too. Just a cheap publicity stunt, I hope it backfires on them.
Maybe I will learn something today, so I will ask this question seriously:
On a census, what ethnicity would a Jewish person check? I assume that it would be āwhiteā.
Am I incorrect in my assumption?
Hannity, Cruz, Palin, Limbaugh, Savage and Fox News are succeeding in what the GOP set out to do on 1/20/2009: Mainstream racism enough so that people wonāt hesitate to promote their hate and racism. And then of course blame it on the President.
Ethnicity is not the same as a familyās National origin and I believe they donāt have a section where you check off what religion you are in the US Census. Ethnically, my family was never from the dominant culture from where they came (in other words, they were the minority group from where they came), but Iām Russian, Austrian, and Rumanian with smatterings of Polish here and there as far as national origin, but I choose to identify myself as a Jewish American first, both culturally and religiously. It just makes the most sense to me. At one time I believe, Jews were thought to be dark skinned heathens in this country. Not particularly welcome in a lot of āpolite societyā either. You are aware that there are some Jews that are not white? Probably not many, but indeed they exist, even here in the US. In fact thereās a whole site on Jews who are also black on the internet with a bunch of familiar celebs. And yes, personally, Iām caucasian.
Hereās what the US Census says about religious data collection:
The U.S. Census Bureau does not collect data on religious affiliation in its demographic surveys or decennial census. Public Law 94-521 prohibits us from asking a question on religious affiliation on a mandatory basis; in some person or household surveys, however, the U.S. Census Bureau may collect information about religious practices, on a voluntary basis. Therefore, the U.S. Census Bureau is not the source for information on religion, nor is the Census Bureau the source for information on religious affiliation. Some statistics on religion can be found in the Statistical Abstract of the United States, Section 1, Population. In addition, we do provide a list of contacts for further assistance regarding religious information.
On ethnicity, nationality, culture, religion, heritage and identityā¦we are a mishmosh in this countryā¦as it should be, but because of miscegenation laws and religious laws against intermarriage between various faiths and a host of other ways people have found ways to separate other people from getting to know each other, we are still struggling as a country to come to terms with new identities people choose to call themselves. Someone whoās biracial may insist they are black or may insist they are both. How theyāre perceived is another matter. Its a conundrum and lack of acceptance by others makes it even harder.
All I was saying above is that you put religion in with a bunch of people based on familial national origin in your list of commemorativesā¦and it just seemed out of place on your list that you put Jewish American in there too. And yeahā¦Iām white if thatās the theory behind your reasoning. But you could have put Asian American Heritage Month or Native American Heritage Month, Carribean American Heritage Month, Filipino American Heritage Month, or Haitian American Month. Someoneās sure to have a hissy fit about those too. Still, I think there is some truth to the idea that there is a segment of this country (mostly ignorant people and bigots) that have a problem with Black History Month.
