"GOP: That is the idea. People voted for us for a (T)reason. "
Issa said he and 2-3 other California GOP reps will vote no. I don’t trust him farther than I can throw him, but that seems to be an obvious plea for some kind of face-saving trinket; it might slow the process down a little.
Awesome. Let’s hear it for Sen. McCaskill!
I seem to remember some around these parts criticizing her dem creds. Yeah, right.
I have to say that many in the MSM have been sounding the alarm, and these poll results help prove it.

Right down to the local news broadcasts. I find it fascinating that they are reporting on legislation now and they have been telling people this tax bill is a POS.
Not “middle-class.” Middle-income. Not necessarily the same thing.
Sure! Lower taxes to pay higher premiums. It’s all revenue neutral!
I’d almost be tempted to vote for a dead Republican – a dead one couldn’t pick my pocket for a plutocrat or molest my niece.
Literally the least they can do, due to how their spectacular failure to sound those alarms before these predictable assholes got elected last year helped paved the way for this mess.
Very useful chart here.
Well, it may well be we have one “no” vote in the Senate. Two more and this awful bill is done…I’ll not shed a tear. It will also further demonstrate the absolute inability of the GOP to pass legislation and it will piss off Orange Julius Caesar. It doesn’t get much better than that.
The thing most are still missing is the budget they’re basing this POS on, which clearly spells out the tens of billions they plan to cut from Medicare and Medicaid to pay for said POS. The Resistance hasn’t been as strong against this thing as it was on the explicitly health-care fight; we might be able to remedy that situation if more knew about those planned cuts. Cut Medicare so the uber-wealthy can turn their investments into “business” income and their kids can inherit tax-free…that fight might get more folks calling and visiting their GOP “representatives.”
Until you commit to voting against this bill, your words will be hollow.
I would expect Collins, Flake and Corker to vote “no” on this bill at the very least. Other Republicans may join in if they feel safe enough in doing so. Flake, Corker and, possibly, Rand Paul will likely oppose it on the grounds that it increases the deficit. McCain might come out against it for being rushed.
Either way, I don’t believe even most Republicans want this passed. It’s only a matter of who’s willing to go on record for killing it. That was the situation with healthcare as well. It’s not that very many Republicans wanted it to pass, only that few were willing to stick their thumb in McConnell’s eye by outright killing it.
Unlike health care where many middle class Republicans receive care via an employer plan, taxes are an issue everybody works hard to understand. I know I read some basic articles about the proposed plans and then did a compare and contrast with my current situation. I pay alternative minimum tax, so the proposal is a big tax break for me, but not everybody is as fortunate. Folks below the AMT threshold are going to be hammered, especially if they are homeowners or from more prosperous states.
I would suspect a lot of people are doing similar simulations.
Taxes are deadly serous for most middle class people. It is really hard to con them. I am pretty sure if they don’t benefit they won’t be happy. I am pretty sure our current crop of elected Republicans don’t understand that. If they did they wouldn’t have proposed gutting middle class deductions.
It’s called “bait and switch”.
You know, McConnell doesn’t sound all that committed to the bill, either.
The bill hasn’t even been printed and it is already burnt to ashes.
