"Hey, hey, Donald J…
How many rails of Adderall did you hoover up today?"
Mitch gave her a pass again. He still has the votes to follow his Master Putin’s command to keep the Government shut down.
Oh, there will be a response: “Thank you for contacting me. I have your best interests at heart. I’m doing wonderful things for you. Here is a list of my wonderful things, blah, blah, blah…” It’s what all responses from your representatives say.
It absolutely is the McConnell / Trump shutdown now. I agree that it should be reported as such.
In fairness to Mitch, Trump pulled the rug out from under him. That gives me some hope that Mitch won’t hold out forever.
A total fantasy -
but
The current Senate is Democrats (45 + 2) =47 and GOP= 53
If 4 senators walked into McConnell office and said - This is it - we have had it and are not going to ride your flaming dung wagon over the cliff - in 5 minutes have a press conference and we are becoming independents and will caucus with the Democrats and in 6 minutes you will be a member of the senate minority
That would then be Democrats (45 + 2 + 4) =51 and GOP= 49 … with Pence carrying around a warm bucket of spit
If it was done by 4 good poker players - the threat alone might get Mitch to budge - and that might be a game changer
- and if they are really good poker players & good strategists they will also have a couple more converts ready to jump in and drop the hammer if Mitch were to agree to bring it to the floor - but then pull one of his classic zero-integrity switcheroos -
yeah - fantasy …
The Senate passed an appropriations bill without the wall funding on Dec. 19th. There was expectation that the House would pass the same bill, it would get sent to Trump and he would sign it. Then Ann Coulter started braying about the lack of wall funding on Twitter. This emboldened the RWNJs in the House and, rather than passing the Senate bill, they added wall funding to their bill. That meant the two bills would need to be reconciled, but the Senate had already shut down for the holidays.
New year, new Congress, and the whole process has to start over again. So, Nancy brought up the 2018 Senate bill in the House and they passed it. But now, since that bill was originally passed by the 2018 Senate, it has to be passed again by the 2019 Senate – but Mitch says he won’t bring it up for a vote because Trump would veto it.
Does that all make sense?
After her vote in favor in Kavanaugh, there was a fund set up to fund her Democratic opponent in 2020 — whoever it may be. If I recall correctly, contributions were over $3 million. I contributed.
Susan Collins, to be effing fair to the people of the country, Trump is a national emergency! How long will Mitch sit idly by and allow Trump to drag the country under? As leader of a coequal branch of the government, he needs to do his job to stop the madness, or resign for dereliction of duty.
The bill that passed with unanimous consent in the Senate expired at the end of the last Congress. The new (essentially same) clean CR that the House passed has not passed the Senate and won’t be voted on unless and until Mitch allows it.
In other words, we have no way to force the bill to Trump’s desk without McConnell and he is taking one for his team by sparing Trump the political hit of having to veto
McConnell is an amoral, soulless automaton bent on turning the U.S into as close a judicial version of 1860 as he possibly can.
If more Americans knew that and acted on it, the Shutdown would be over with tonite.
Drumpf is a pimp. He can disrupt, but the Turtle plans.
McConnell, as calculating as he is, cannot summon 1/000th of the charisma of the mad demagogue, Drumpf. But Drumpf would be in prison without McConnell.
Each has his own forte…and the symbiosis will continue to kill Americans, football playoffs or not.
Piss off, Susan
Right, but that was, I think, the genius of Pelosi’s stance. By using the exact same language, with NO changes, that passed by unanimous consent, she put them in a very awkward place.
If she had allowed amendments, they could have attacked that. But now they’re left with no substantive argument why what was perfectly fine with them before Christmas is now so bad they can’t even bring it up for a vote.
She’s like The Sidler on Seinfeld.
That’s where whores like Chuck Todd come in.
’
His job is to “journalistically” un-say everything you just wrote.
More of the same bullshit from Collins. She can call for them to be brought up for a vote because she knows McConnell won’t bring them up for a vote. As Harry Reid so eloquenty said of her, “you can always count on her vote until you need it.”
Do it, Susan.
Just don’t think for a MINUTE that this will wash the Kavanaugh stink off of you.
Oh absolutely. There is no good play for the GOP. They either pass the bill and force Trump to fold or veto, or McConnell and a bunch of vulnerable GOP Senators have to weather the storm.
Pelosi is driving the wedge hard.
And is anyone stupid enough to think that if the Senate passed it with 2/3 that the House wouldn’t do the same? Of course they would. Also, isn’t that what happened with the Russia sanctions? The Senate passed them overwhelmingly and dared PP to veto it. He signed it.
What are you in ME going to do about her in 2020?
