Discussion: Collins: I Would Not Support A Nominee Who Demonstrated Hostility To Roe V. Wade

“But I’ll confirm them anyway because Mitch tells me.”

“I actually don’t,” Collins said.
I had a very long discussion with Justice Gorsuch in my office and he pointed out to me that he is a co-author of a whole book on precedent,” she said. “So someone who devotes that much time to writing a book on precedent, I think understands how important a principle that is in our judicial system.”

Disingenuous, or incredibly naive. There’s no third option.

Better than even odds the she’ll fold when a vote comes to the floor. @aiddon beat me to this.

She’s a perfect mark for Trump’s grift.

…and, yada, yada, yada she’ll vote for the nominee anyway.

She’s either delusional or disingenuous. Also, more should be made of the fact that the EVP of an extreme right-wing judicial cabal is seconded to the White House to run the selection process. Imagine if a Democratic president outsourced his or her SCOTUS picks to the ADA. (Not as extreme, but you get the idea.)

I see people are sending coat hangers to her and Sen. Murkowski’s office. I can already hear the “civility” cries from the usual suspects, but I suspect it will have an effect. On both of them.

And why are you even considering supporting any nominee whatsoever at this time? I thought you believed that the American people deserve a say in the process a full fucking year before the election, and here it is, just a few months.

At least that’s what you believed 2 years ago.

Susie, Susie, Susie. You hang an “R” next to your name and we all know what that means. Party before country, conformity, no morals or values. You’ll fold like a cheap tent. You always do.

You know who else wrote a whole book?

In which Susan Collins gives the future nominee extremely specific instructions on how to give her the cover she needs to vote for him (and oh, it’ll be a man and he’ll be white as Jeff Sessions Klan robes) while still maintaining her pretext for the credulous MSM numbnuts who still insist on imputing good faith to her.

Technically, there is a third option . . . bald-faced liar. I am going to pick that one for Collins based on her previous record. (And she will keep doing it as long as Maine voters let her get away with it.)

I don’t trust any republicans anymore. They were all against the orange and then one by one changed their leanings and fell behind Il Duce like well behaved children.

Yes there are a couple: Gullible and stupid.

Precedent does not protect us. GOP does not care about stare decisis. They just upended a whole load of precedent in Janus and they didn’t give a crap.

Liar.

To me “disingenuous” is an arch way of saying that, the way you might say a person is “somewhat lacking in candor.”

Sure Susan, sure. What are you going to do when the candidate refuses to comment on his position regarding Roe V. Wade? That is the Republican way of avoiding being voted down… just don’t tell anyone your position on anything and pretend that that shows an openness to the law.

You are being played like a stringless guitar. Air politics.

NaĂŻve, but not incredibly so.

(There’s your third option, and it’s what I’m going with.)

Collins, Flake, Corker and McCain all piss me off. They constantly get credit for “viewing with concern” but then vote for the shit anyway.

Collins also gets “promised” stuff that will address her “concerns” by party leadership, but never seems to be bothered by the fact that she supposedly got screwed over by them the last 4-5 times. Leadership knows she’s a safe vote, so plays along with her.

Arguably, the media is complicit in this as they regularly write the “viewing with concern” stories without doing follow up stories showing she voted for it anyway.

So was Collins asked about that? (I have no idea.)
