I agree with your argument. Even the most LIBERAL interpretation of the Amendment would not anticipate AR-15’s !!
If the “originalists” have to have it “as written”, then local authorities should be able define a “legal firearm” as a muzzle-loader. Hard to shoot those very fast, but still good for hunting deer (at close range). I love it.
I’m a Prime member all set to renew, and you’re a member too, but sometimes we get some TMZ tossed into the TPM mix, e.g. Darla Shine and Stormy at a strip club. I have some terrible nights too, FWIW. We have a new African American female mayor who was sworn in yesterday, and I should be cheering, but it looks gloomy.
Face it, if it weren’t for the slavish ass kissers in Congress, he would be on his way out by now,America will cringe when the depths of their corruption is revealed
There could yet be a monkey wrench thrown into the works, but he’s only at the top of the Federalist Society list. PPee will go to the second if he has to.
It sure feels like we need some miracles. We don’t have power, but we do outnumber them.
The Repubs don’t seem to realize their successes are not going to last. From what I hear, many of them are having trouble going out in public. Imagine what it will be like with more time.
It’s an enormous drag that both incompetence and corruption seem to be the vital currency. If Manchin were my senator, I’d email my outrage. Even late, I think it matters. And, outrage is about to make some more noise (wish I were in Londontown). It matters. Early. Late. Right on cue. It matters.
How further Fuckface damage can be limited from now to November to levels which are low enough for us to recover from… that’s what I can’t help thinking now. Four months is both short and long, and much damage has been done already.
And of course, at polling places across the country, we will be fighting not just against the fuckin’ Nazi Party, we are also fighting against Putin’s Russia, which will sure try to do their thing again. We need to beat both to win. It’s a lot of work.
And when there’s at least a ghost of a chance of getting 67 votes for removal in the Senate. Otherwise there’s not much point.
Nixon didn’t resign because the House was about to pass a bill of impeachment. He resigned because Goldwater told him he didn’t have the votes for acquittal in the Senate.
This is just one 2nd amendment example. The folks in 1790 couldn’t have imagined so many things about the world of today. Could they have imagined multinational corporations larger than the economy of entire continents? The pill? Hanging chad? Etc. Ad nauseum.
Originalism has always been cover. The originalists use it when it’s convenient and ignore it when it gets them to a different outcome than they want. The thing is they just won’t admit they are doing the same thing, in the opposite direction, of those they accuse.
