I can’t relate. If the FBI took all my financial records I wouldn’t be crying I would be laughing. The article mentions that some friends are “reaching out” to help. With some friends he’s got taking gifts is probably a big mistake.

As with any career choice, the family lives with the ups and the downs. I’ve had this discussion over the last two plus decades with people who choose the traveling consultant life - the family enjoys the perks of the income, so they have to live with the travel and the nights away.
I use the same argument here - the family has benefited from this guy’s career choices - this is just another unfortunate outcome that he has, thus far, avoided. I feel for the family that they hitched their wagon to this star, but the ramifications of this choice go both ways.
