The report also notes that Green has experience cutting plea deals — citing specifically a plea deal he cut for Dennis Hastert — though, according to CNN, Green is also known to take cases to trial.
Not a contradiction.
All other things equal, a lawyer with a reputation for doing well in court — and Tom Green is one such — can usually get a better plea deal for his client.
“Signs Of Potential Gates-Mueller Deal-Making.”
Somewhere in the West Wing…
Now might be the time to invest in the company that makes Shore Lunch. I’m guessing some really big fish are about to be fried…
“Rick Gates, filthy kulak and Lienz Cossack, regularly attended meetings of the FBI secret society at Comet Ping-Pong Pizza together with OBAMAAAAA!”
With his assets at least partially frozen and having to rely on a public defender at one point for representation, I am not surprised by this. This is not Mueller’s first rodeo.
It appears the chickens are coming home to roost all together singing a Patriotic melody la la la
In the year 3000, they’re going to have a devil of a time at the Head Museum keeping President Trump’s head’s hair from floating off every morning.
AROOOOOOOOOOO!
Mueller wouldn’t offer a deal unless Gates could not only put Manafort away, but also provide valuable, incriminating information on the campaign’s activities with Russia, the dramatic rise in fundraising for Trump and Trump supporting orgs (e.g., NRA) through Russian routes, and Kushner. So this is big.
“Another, it suggests, is the delay in filing a superseding indictment— a new indictment against an existing defendant, usually with additional counts or parties or both, that replaces the original indictment — in the case.”
Can someone explain this to me? Who is the “existing defendant”?
Yesterday was Obstruction of Justice day. Today is money laundering and Russia conspiracy day. Looks like Mueller’s moving forward on all tracks.
Given the severity of the charges against both Manafort and Gates, I’ve been very surprised they have resisted deals to this point. Gates has young children so his failure to make a deal has been especially surprising.
And Manafort never struck me as a ‘go down the ship’ kind of guy. Given his age, he’s facing the rest of his life in jail.
I just assumed they feared their former business partners more than they feared the DoJ.
Edit: Or that had a pardon deal in place.
Gates knows about the money that flowed in for the inauguration that hasn’t been accounted for. And he may have some info on Trump 2020 campaign money and sources that started being amassed immediately after he was sworn in.
If you get the money man to cooperate, it’s a big deal (ask Al Capone).
It’s probably pretty certain that for decades Trump has operated like a totalitarian dictator within his various crooked businesses. That becomes so ingrained that he cannot imagine any world where he’s required to obey the law or answer to anyone. Now that Mueller is digging around in Trump’s Ugly Kingdom, the Orange Fecal Stain is getting a much-needed lesson in legal matters. Trump probably did a lousy job of trying to cover his tracks because he presumed he’s the ruler of the universe and has no need to worry. Oh please, karma, let this be the case. Let us rejoice in the perp walk that we all know should soon take place. Amen.
Or in Trump’s case, a “Cohn”.
I guess it makes Trump a “Cohn Head”.
I second that Amen and raise you a Hallelujah. Time for some reality to hit the GOP. Manafort is such a sleazy character he is straight of of central casting for bad guys.
The “new indictments” should just be updated versions of the indictments against Gates and Manafort. Mueller has not shown all his cards to the defendants (Gates and Manafort), in order to encourage them to change their pleas. If Mueller is withholding the superseding indictments (against the same two), it means that the pressure is working and the defendants could be looking for a deal.
