Discussion for article #224440
Not sure why but I find this highly amusing. I love it when an honest interaction interrupts the routine rhythms of punditry.
So good to see they quickly recovered and moved on. It reminds me of the scene from the movie “The Truman Show” where Jim Carrey is screaming about how he’s figured out it’s all a scam while everyone keeps pretending nothing is amiss.
If the interwebs had let this alone, instead of rebroadcasting it, only thethree or four people who watch CNBC would have been in on this secret.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Where can I learn how to speak as pompously as Jim Stewart?
npr had essentially the same commentary, and followed it up with a correction that despite the earlier report, a major CEO, Tim Cook, is gay. No awkward pauses there, but then again it’s radio.
Hmmm… it isn’t a secret.
It’s fairly common knowledge. It’s just rude to speak about it in the media unless the person alleged feels open to talk about it.
Here in San Francisco, I remember hearing people commenting about it frequently in private when he was appointed CEO after Jobs’ demise. I as also aware of it while he was still CFO. And I’m not really plugged into the gay community out here.
Yeah, I would have thought it was common knowledge as I recall seeing it noted quite few times in articles/blogs (not hearing it discussed in private) at the time of his ascension to CEO.
And why does it matter at all? Goddess, I can wait for the time when a conversation like this is on par with, “Well, the CEO of X Corporation is a woman.”
Oh…sigh. Never mind.
Why is anyone acting surprised at this? Why is this even a news story? After all, it IS CNBC, where dolts who can’t make it anywhere in real life go to commit gaffe after gaffe! And get paid 7 digit salaries for doing so, to boot!
Ohbloodyhell!
There goes the gayborhood.

huh. I’m an Apple fan and this is the first I’ve heard that Tim Cook is gay. Not that it matters…
Well, I think Dick Cheney is fairly open about the fact that he’s bi-curious, isn’t he? Oh, dear… was that an error?
" CEOs especially are measured by objective criteria" you would think this would be a major discussion issue, not what these guys do when they are not sucking in billions of dollars in bonuses. Objective criteria is the last thing I would think of when looking at the CEOs. However, how many people are being screwed by the company and CEOs gay, straight or gorillas would be a good set of criteria.
That right there is homophobia. So ashamed of the fact that a simple statement of Cook’s sexuality makes people phobic.
Wow, you couldn’t be THAT much of an Apple fan then.
I heard The Donald is gay. Was I misinformed? Not that I want to spread rumors.
Well, that was kind of awkward…
WELL played bard, well played.
I heard that “The Donald’s” hair is Grand Marshall of the Pride Parade in SF this year.
