The Ted Cruz joke was great

Clinton got laughs while Trump got boos. And that’s from a largely Conservative and Republican crowd.

What a brilliant way to end. With something that everyone can get together on.

Woah! Has someone just “nuked” nytimes.com? The site just went offline, with attempts to reach it returning the messages: “Firefox can’t find the server at www.nytimes.com”, or the following using MS Edge:

Whew. nytimes.com is back up. Temporary glitch…

Love seeing Rudy stew and can’t wait for his retort. Bring it on Rudy, bring it on.

Whew, I was worried that Hillary would not be able to follow Barack Obama’s act at the White House Corespondents’ Dinners. Looking forward to it now.

"Pointing to the guests on the dais, Clinton said, “We’ve got the Honorable Chuck Schumer, the Honorable Andrew Cuomo, the Honorable Mike Bloomberg, the Honorable Bill DeBlasio, the Honorable Dave Dinkins, and so many other wonderful elected officials. And we have Rudy Giuliani.”

Someone’s hitting her stride. Beautiful.

This was the best part of the night for me. Hope it bruised little Donny’s yuuuge ego. He needs a spanking and a time out.

Overall, I really don’t think Hillary has gotten the credit due for this campaign, which has been brilliantly run in so many ways. The convention was tops, she not only destroyed him in three debates, she did so in a manner that made him pay through several news cycles by tricking/trapping him into keeping unfavorable memes alive himself. Her ads, both on TV and especially online, have been works of art. And the strategy of attacking Trump early, and then gradually pivoting to her positive message for our future has been a thing of beauty to watch unfold.

And to pull all of this off while Trump has clearly dominated the media coverage? Bravo, Madam President,Bravo.

He spent most of the time Clinton was speaking looking like a seven-year-old who had been informed that, if he didn’t behave, he was getting a lashing when he got home.

@daveyjones64 Clinton is a brilliant campaigner. My biggest issue is that, sometimes, she can be way too lawyerly. Sometimes the simplest answers would be the best, and she doesn’t seem to catch that. The Daily Show pointed out that there really is nothing to see in the leaked emails. Clinton could just have easily put the issue to bed by pointing out that what got leaked was Podesta’s recipe for risotto. Yeah, a President has to have both public and private beliefs. After all, Harry Truman had private beliefs that the creation of Israel was going to be a disaster, but he supported the creation of Israel publically. Lincoln supported the deportation of the slaves after they were freed, something he put aside before pushing the Thirteenth Amendment.

My guess: he wrote his own stuff and none of his staff had the guts to tell him that it sucked. She, on the other hand, turned to people who know how to write comedy…in other words, pro’s.

A snapshot of what their administrations would be like

Actually, “brava”, but I endorse and applaud your sentiment.

Two candidates appeared.

One was poised, cool and Presidential.

The other was Drumpf…

Those are largely issues of style. The points I was bringing up is the strategy…the bigger picture, behind the scenes sort of stuff. And her campaign has been fantastic. Indeed, one could argue that they even took into account her “lawerly” tendency, and instead of ignoring it, they worked with it.

Which is an interesting point in juxtaposition to Trump. Try to imagine anyone pointing out one of his flaws and suggesting how they could adjust the campaign around it. And then imagine his reaction. How many items were broken in your imaginings? Everything he could throw in mine.

Trump doesn’t believe he has any flaws, which is why he believes he is winning.

Those little elements of style are also part of the broader strategy. The way she tends to avoid them or deflect them tends to add to the problems she is facing regarding people trusting her. The reality is that nothing in the emails is even dubious and sometimes she needs to fight that. But it is a minor flaw in an otherwise brilliant campaign. Others should study and learn from this campaign, in fact.
