I must have missed that since I didn’t see the very beginning but I thought she was terrific. She never mentioned the Trumpty Dumpty but she didn’t have to. I thought she did a great job.

Someone tell us how you stop individuals unaffiliated with a known terrorist organization from unleashing mayhem. The loose-mouthed, undisciplined lone wolves can at best be identified and watched, but available manpower limits the degree and thoroughness of your monitoring. The most determined, secretive and discreet lone wolves can go about their business relatively unnoticed.
Free speech and criminal statutes don’t permit locking someone up for merely mouthing anti-American or violent sentiments. If they did there would be an inmate populace for those offenses alone running into the millions.
The Bush administrations, and to a lesser degree Obama, killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians waging at times indiscriminate warfare in the Middle East pre and post 9/11. Additionally many innocents were/are jailed erroneously, many for years, possibly for life. Imagine how many people related to those killed and jailed are pissed off. Very pissed off, with a major ax to grind, wanting revenge. Revenge for the deaths or wrongful incarceration of sisters, brothers, spouses, children, parents and friends.
We’ve brought much of this on ourselves. We wildly and disproportionally overreacted to 9/11 and continued in that vein, even until today. Reap what you sow indeed.

I’m surprised Trump hasn’t made it a platform plank. Rather than harp on bombing the families of ISIS fighters, he could be lining the pockets of the the profitable prison industry–which ironically employed the villain in this massacre.

I appreciate the call to want to work with Republicans to improve national security and stop domestic terrorism. But that will of course not happen. For Republicans these days, party and power always trumps country and doing what’s right.
We can at least make it not legal for them to purchase assault weapons. So whether they are mentally defective and want to shoot up a movie theatre because they think they are The Joker, or because they are a messed up homophobic scumbag who is a muslim and whose religion tells him to kill gays… they won;t have military assault rifles to do it.

Nobody’s ability to hunt or target-shoot or protect themselves will be infringed if these weapons are prohibited.

Excellent suggestion. It also puts the NRA in the untenable position of supporting terrorism if they disagree.
I think it’s going to be difficult to stop lone wolf attacks as long as there is easy access to AR-15 type rifles.
I also have to say: as horrible and tragic this has been, it’s obvious how ready and prepared Secretary Clinton is to be President. With her easy knowledge and grasp of the nuances, there’s nobody I can think of more up to this difficult and complex challenge.

Nor did Dylann Roof use an AK-15 to kill nine church worshippers.Very true. But the Feds actual monitor fertilizer purchases, particularly those who are on FBI watch lists.

True, but as we’ve seen many determined killers use front men to purchase their weapons. The San Bernadino perps had their weapons bought for them by someone less prone to surveillance. Terrorism is like water. It both wears down the hardest stone to fine sand and simultaneously seeks the path of least resistance. It doesn’t care. Put up impediments until your fingers bleed from writing the new laws and signing the search warrants. It shrugs and keeps flowing.
