Discussion: Clinton Knocks Sanders: Americans Can’t 'Hold Out For The Perfect’

Oh my God – the tone, the tone!

Quick, fetch my fainting couch!

I can already see the Bernie fans now: EVEN CLINTON ADMITS THAT BERNIE IS PERFECT!

You’re not getting the nomination, Bernie. Make a deal with Clinton to drop your campaign in exchange for some concessions already.

“Some folks may have the luxury to hold out for the perfect, Ms. Sarandon" Clinton told the crowd at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. “But a lot of Americans are hurting right now and they can’t wait for that.”

“The perfect is the enemy of the good.”

That’s true, but at the same time, if we don’t aim high, we end up settling for less than we can achieve.

I want Democrats to aim high, and I want them to move the ball inch by inch until we get there.

Contrast that with today’s GOP, who are all too willing to watch the world burn until they get everything they want, with no exception and no compromise.

Sue Sarandon comes to mind

Not mincing words, Hill, let’s get this wrapped up. Bernie and fans wasting time and money. Need to get real.

This sounds more like a knock on Sarandon than on Bernie…

NO. Just no.

If you’re White, well off and have the luxury of time, YOU go aim high and let the rest of us work for what we can, as we can.

Well played…that’s actually pretty funny.

If Bern wants a debate in NY,that’s what HRC will do in the debate. She will remind her former constituents of everything she did for them during her 8 years as U.S. Senator for NY. Also,I don’t think going there and slamming her for her Iraq UOF Resolution vote is gonna go over as well in NY as it might other places. And by all means Bern, please go to NY and slam Wall Street during a nationally televised debate. Please proceed Senator.

Democrats compromise plenty. That’s why the politics of every office in the country have been moving rightward for almost 40 years.

Hillary’s right. Also, I’m not sure if all the bugs are worked out of Bernie, he sometimes feels a little like Nader 2.0

I completely respect your reply, but I think you’re confusing strategy and tactics. Aiming high is the strategy; working for what we can, as we can, is the tactics.

We need both.

Aim low - get Hillary Clinton
Aim high - get Bernie Sanders

“Can’t Hold Out For The Perfect” is a great Frank Luntz line. Use it well.

I disagree. Sometimes when your aim is too high, the tactics become misguided. Look, I’m not suggesting that the American people either settle for nothing or believe in nothing. But it has to be made clear that the vision has to be specific, carefully crafted with an eye towards what’s been ACHIEVED SO FAR and what’s REALISTICALLY POSSIBLE TO COME. The reason I’m using the dreaded caps lock is because that’s what some of his supporters refuse to understand. Actually, some of they never will.

Aiming high doesn’t make sense without context.

Entirely unlike Nader in at least one very important way:

Senator Sanders has been clear he’s going to support the nominee of the Democratic Party in this process. We anticipate it will be him who will be the Democratic nominee. He has said quite clearly he’s running for the Democratic nomination. In the event he should not receive it, he would support the Democratic nominee, and obviously were he to become the Democratic nominee, we would expect Secretary Clinton would support him. - Jeff Weaver, Bernie’s Campaign Manger, March 30 2016.

She’s campaigning in New York. As a New Yorker.

In other words: Anybody else who can’t take the heat should get the hell outta the kitchen.
